Did I top to early ??

I have a nice liberty haze going that's been delightful so far to get going . I topped her the first time early and then let the 2 shoots come back . I decided to the new shoots after about an 1inch growth hoping to get 4 mains . Did I hit it to early ? Respectful opinions please .

Unless it's too small for me to see, no you will not get 4 mains, you will get 2. It looks like you cut off the other 2 on top. In that case, the whole part of the stem going up to those 2 leaves are kind of pointless.

Ya you were supposed to cut just above the node, not below it.

You could top the two tops when they grow out and get four if you really wanted I suppose.

Your fine in the future instead of topping try breaking stem over (form of super cropping). It will cause less stress than topping and you can get 20+tops.

spliting a branch does not give the same result as cuting the main stalk to top, when you top you cut the main stem it sends the hormones that would have gone to the main cola to the two nodes below the cut. you will have two main colas i would not cut anymore you can only top once after that its just pruning as far as i know.
 
As far as I know any time you take the top of any branch of a plant, the plant will send the energy from that one top to the next node which will be two growths instead of the one you've just taken. But it will be taking the energy of one and dividing it in two so you will have 50 percent energy to each growth that the initial one would have had= more even canopy/cola size with several colas and less popcorn. But your several colas will never be as big as the one if all of the plants energy was concentrated on only one cola. Which is ok with me, easier to jar lol.

Weed is kind of like a hydra, that's how mothers work. I've seen a huge mom cut down to about 4 water leaves and in a few weeks was an even bigger Bush than before.

Hey check out the mainlining thread lol if u start early and build a hub u will be amazed with the way it can grow top all 4 then u will have 8 and then add a tomatoes ring and u can tie each of the 8 to the ring . Defoliate below yhe ring then switch to flower and u will have 8 big nice main colas . Look up the thread it has a full tutorial with lots of nice pics
 
I agree with jaybray supercropping is the way to go. And alota lot faster than topping and waiting for that new growth.
 
Did you read the sticky at the top of this section called "Uncle Ben's Topping Method for 2 or 4 Colas"? It explains exactly how to get 2 or 4 with pics on how to do it.
