did i grow it upside down? help please

im new so bear with me
i germinated my seeds and this white thing came out i let it grow to be about half an inch long then i put it into soil seed in the soil and white thing sticking out
i noticed that the white think got all brown and kinda died then i noticed at the bottom of the brown there was a bigger white part
and i waited a week and stil lnothing
so i checked the seed and the shell of the seed came off
and i noticed 2 small greenish looking things connected to the white thing are those green things leaves? cuz they look like it did i plant it upside down?

yes you did. next time be sure to put the white side in the ground about a finger deep. and dont wait so long b4 you plant it.
