Diatomaceous earth and watering

Can I water my plants through the DE without it hurting the plants or should I move it off and replace it after watering. Also, any idea what would leave a red substance on it? I wanna say it's blood but it's a lot. A little to the left side and a big bit up front.

Your good watering through DE. Won’t hurt plants. No clue about the red stuff though.

Water through it and then reapply more.

Word, yeah I was worried too that it's ineffective when wet. Regardless the de does seem to be working like a charm, I'm gonna remove and reapply since I obviously won't need the whole 4lbs I bought. Cheers guys. Stay well.

Don’t remove it. Mix it in. It’s basically silica.
