determining plant characteristics from seeds

Okay soo I'm just looking to start up some discussion and learn a few things maybe:blsmoke:.
My question is, can you tell ANYTHING about the plant by looking at the seed it came from?!

For example, some seeds have little tiger stripes on them, some are darker than others, maybe ones more round than another, etc. If plants have specific genotypes, than wouldnt the seeds from them all be similar? So then if someone knew enough about certain strains and their seeds, if given a few seeds, wouldnt they be able to analize them and guess what strain it is? SOO then if someone put a list together of all the top strains and what their seeds looked like, shouldn't there be some similiar characteristics? Or even, shouldnt there be similar characteristics between mostly indica/mostly sativa seeds, etc. ?!

Also, does anybody use the method of determing "female" seeds by looking at the seeds and the indent where they were attached to the plant? Does it seem to work? peace:joint:

They should be brown and sewlled. You reallly can't tell anything from a seed except when the plant was pulled, (2 early or 2 late) in some cases.

A buddy told me the flatest ones, which mean the ones that don't roll as much, will turn out to be female .
