I have a friend who's wants find out if got males or females. And he was wondering if he can take a clipping and put it in 12/12 to find sex? Does he have to wait till they root or can go 12/12 right away?

You can go 12/12 from day 1.

yes you can take a clone from the plant, make sure you root it for 2 weeks under a vegetative state, then transfer it over to 12/12. Looks for balls or hairs, simple.
