Yeah, I think we already had a thread on this topic.

I guess inviting somebody who has espoused a particular policy proposal to a congressional committee meeting (which included both Democrats and Republicans, btw) to discuss that proposal might be technically be described as "considering" that policy proposal, but it takes a really hard spin.

Congressional committees invite a lot of people to testify. Personally I think considering as wide a range of ideas as possible is a good thing. No doubt you believe in applying some kind of ideological litmus test to every academic before inviting them to appear. Unfortunately, it's exactly that ideological rigidity that produced the mess we're in now.
