the great society is what destroyed and is continueing to destroy the black family. more welfare per capita among blacks right now. more babies born out of wedlock, more crime in black neighborhoods, and the statistics go on and on.
dont believe me? look it up. very easy to find. while you are at it go back to the civil rights bills of the 60's. see which party spent countless hours/weeks filibusting. they were all democrats.
maybe you can offer some sorrt of substantial argument that giving people welfare works? if you do, you may just be the first person on the face of the planet to argue that successfully.

Nice history lesson. Let me explain some things that im sure the talking head you heard that from left out. These filibustering Democrats you speak of were all Southerners known as "Dixiecrats". Some of which like Strom Thurmond later switched parties and became REPUBLICAN!!!
The actual vote itself was fairly bipartisan. The one constant was representatives from the south. Very few southern Democrats or "Dixiecrats" voted for it. But ZERO southern Republicans did.

All government can do is redistribute wealth forcefully and that creates two wrongs.
The first wrong is the nature of the government confiscation and the second is the enabling behavior that it perpetuates from some of the undeserving recipients.
Charity is good when it is freely given, when it is coerced it is a form of theft.
Teaching / Helping people to rely on themselves is a good thing, it is the only way to break the poverty cycle.

You're just going to forget about the 12million illegals?!?!?! Who do you think is going to foot the bill when they get in a car wreck? I guarantee you they wont get deported before they make it to the hospital. Any discussion of cost related to healthcare has to consider ALL the people in this country, not just the ones who are here on paper.
Yes 7117 per year is about what it costs to pay for healthcare for the average american. No surprise that it works out to that number. But guess what, someone was paying that amount before. Whether or not you are insured you will get treatment for a stroke or cancer or any kind of trauma, and the taxpayer will ultimately pay for it.
What we need is a more efficient system of paying for it. And that can only be achieved thru a single payer system. Unfortunately, due to the genius of individuals like yourself that will probably never happen in this country. It costs too much to save some money...
There are so many other areas that can be improved upon before getting government involved.

they won't tackle the malpractice issue, they don't want to fuck over the lawyer buddies (themselves)
They won't support doctors setting up clinics to treat people on a monthly fee basis. I. E. no hmo except for catastrophic care policy. (they shut one guy down on the east coast)
They won't allow insurance companies to sell insurance across state lines.
WE spent 10 billion last year on illegal aliens health care. ENFORCE THE LAWS, maybe?
There should be a law that govt. must release all restrictions they put on companies for 1 year before they can get involved.
Simply, more govt is not the answer. the last 60 years has proven that the govt. is part of the problem, not the solution.
Until we are given candidates that will use common sense, not political sense, it will not get better. Time to wake up people, you are doing just what they want, arguing amongst ourselves
If the people worked hard to find a TRUE leader, and businessmen who vowed to right the ship, both parties would snap in line when the 3rd party hit 40% support. Until then we just argue pointlessly on the internet.

Some of you seem to have "drank the koolaid". Fox is nothing more than a propoganda machine of the right wing. The Great Society was what brought us out of the first Republican Great Depression, prior to the chrash we had three straight conservative Administrations who believed in the Friedman style of free market economics. Free Market Economics would actually work if you didn't have to add humans to the equation. As soon as you factor in humans with their greed and bigotry, Free Market Economics turns into cannablistic capitalism which, left unregulated, will eventually consume itself. An unregulated marekt was what lead us to the Guilded Age where most people were used as slave labor for a few wealthy families. You really need to read the Shock Doctrine and the Wrecking Crew to get a firm grasp of what REALLY happened. Coservatives have been rewriting history to try to make people belive that their greed was not behind the Great Depression. As we speak there is a Conservative group rewriting the bible to make greed, bigotry and selfishness more acceptable thus making them not look as evil as they really are.

ok from personal experience.. I had a child when I was still a teenager. I've never had financial support from my family. Luckily my girlfriend and i went to college. While we were in college we got food stamps. If I would not have had assistance from the government I would have never gone to college because I would of had to work full time at a job where I would never be able to contribute to society. Now I have a job with security and we pay more in taxes each year than we ever got from welfare in the whole time we were on it.

I don't think anyone is advocating eliminating food stamps. I'm all in favor of programs, even new ones, that are designed to help people who seek to elevate themselves. It's when we seek to make poverty comfortable that we get into trouble. And we do it in the name of fairness. But all it really does is entrap people into a mediocre standard of living that they quickly get stuck in.
The goal of the left, at least the hard left, is to have a majority of americans paying no taxes at all and being recipients of government aid. America is based on holding a central government in check, not on becoming hopelessly dependent on it.

i dont have a problem helping people who are trying to help themselves....none at all. but you know as well as anybody that many black poeple are trapped by the govt check. they dont try to succeed they only look for their next check. hey, its not only blacks. i am white and my sister is the same way. i also have an uncle who spends more time trying to get out of work than it would take to do the work. always looking for the next handout.
inner city blacks were sold out for political power. look at housing projects. would you like to make an argument for the great benefits that they have brought? should we build more? i doubt you will find many outside of the obama administration advocating that. do a little research on valery jarret and her luxurious Grove Parc Plaza Housing Project. and she was supposed to be helping.
word, i am glad you got a helping hand and moved yourself up. thats our mission as humans, to help people get ahead. giving them handouts seldom, if ever, works.
