Deficiencies!

Help needed!

On second run of ceres seeds white indica . first run from seed no major problems start to finish. very happy with final product

This run is from clones. New growth is very yellow, lower part of plant looks pretty healthy and green. No leaves really falling off plants or anything like that.

I am using Megacrop all in one formula. Pretty sure no problem with nutes as ran Megacrop for previous run with zero problems.

I really wanted to start flowering about 2 weeks days ago but wanted to clear up problems first. But don't seem to be able to. I flushed plants around 10 days ago and completely changed res. I added calmag around 4 days ago but doesn't seem to have done very much as yet.

Pic below with leds on, as is very little other light in room.

Anyone have any ideas. How bad would it be to put into flower in current condition?

PH has remained quite stable between 5.6-5.8...It seems to drift down slightly between each topping off. PPM currently around 900ppm.

Plants have been in veg roughly 7 weeks now

Sounds like you need N. Probably flushed it all out. You should probably feed a full strength veg feeding for the N to get you through flowering. I think you can go in to flower now.

I should have stated that I had the yellowing top growth before I flushed. I did the flush and res change to see if it would help the problem. It hasn't.

I probably should have tried calmag earlier but still really learning. Only 3rd grow.

I thought about N deficiency, but from a lot of reading , i gathered that most sources seem to say N deficiency will show first on older/lower leaves. Whereas the lower part of my plants is green and seems healthy.

Hard to tell with the blurple lights on. Turn the lights off, put your flash on and take a few pics.

Have you looked at your roots?
No, I don't really have easy access to look at roots. My plants are in 5 litre pots, flood and drain (i think would be classed as) . with only a small hole in the bottom of pots for water to drain.

I think the pot size is too small really and am going to completely change system for next run, but the last 2 grows did OK with current system

Megacrop is supposed to have cal and mag in it, maybe not enough? I use it with tap water but i'm sure other people use RO water. Did you use led's on the first grow? Your nutes don't sound too strong. What are your temps? Maybe it is the roots getting too warm.

Yes I used the same lights for last run. Temps have been consistently around 75-77 with lights on and around 71 with lights off. Humidity between 40-50. Which I guess from my reading is a bit on the low side for veg but I wouldn't have thought bad enough to cause the issues I have(and temps/humidity are same as last run)

I'm also using tap water that starts off at around 250ppm , the only thing I add to the megacrop is cyco silica at 1ml per litre, because on my first run I had problems with stems being too weak to support buds in late flower. But I also used the silica with MC on last run with no probs, and had much stronger stems than 1st run.

The only real difference from last run is I'm running from clones instead of seeds. I did have a bit of a problem with algae growth at the beginning of this veg that I never had last run, but I cleared it up pretty quickly and covered res better. I'm wondering if that may have had some long lasting effect?

Another thing I've wondered is if the Megacrop nutes have lost strength or something but I;ve kept the bag pretty well wrapped up and air tight. I'm pretty sure its not this but just clutching at straws a bit.

I wouldn't put those in flower. Fix them first or start over.
I feel like I've invested too much time to start again, been vegging 7 weeks not including time to root clones, and other than the yellow top growth the plants don't seem a dead loss. If I can't manage to fix the issue I'm going to gamble and flower them anyway and see how it goes. Even if I have to abort somewhere further down the line.

There is plenty of Ca/Mg etc. in Mega Crop, there really is.

Hey OP, if you are in soil your pH is too damn low. Run pH 6.5-7.2 in soil.

Well thanks for completely clearing that one up for me then! Can't believe I never thought to think my PH is "too damn low" for soil!

I'm growing in clay pebbles
I don’t think you ever said what your media was, I was just taking a guess. :bigjoint: Are you running it like Hempys or RDWC or what? Ahhh, just read it sounds like basically hempy with clay pebbles.

Try flushing your whole system out and running real close to 6.0 for a while maybe? Good luck puzzling it out.

I'm running 5 litre pots of clay pebbles top fed (flooded 15mins every hour), they drain through a hole at bottom/side of pot onto a table that goes back into res...so is recirculating. TBH I think the pots are really too small to allow the proper root growth, but I've gotten away with it the last 2 runs.

Yes, I think I'm gonna try flushing the system again, then give it another a week or so with fresh nutes. If things don't improve/get worse, I think I will then just take my chances and start flowering anyway.

I don't think your pots are too small. I have had very healthy, fat, out of control 2 foot indicas in 6" net pots on a flood table. Your pots only have holes on the bottom? I have never tried that because Iike my root zone to get lots of air. I have had algae in a flood tray and it didn't seem to hurt anything. I'm hard pressed to find a problem with your setup, grabbing at straws. Pots may not have enough air, LED's suck, EC and PH meters out of whack, I'm stumped.
