its is only about 3 inches away! its a 14w / 60 w cfl ... is 3 inches too far?

You can get the 100 watt equivalent 6500K cfl @ walmart. I can tell by your picture that you are using a red spectrum bulb (2000k-3000k) as in soft white. That is probably what's causing the baby to be stretched.

I dont know much about bulbs. I am new to this!! lol. I just read to have a cfl, so i went to freds and bought a 60 watt cfl.

its not strectchin! its normal!! just make sure she doesnt grow so fast that she falls over!! maybe pinch off the first 2 leaves!! that'll help stunt her a bit !

I agree with the earlier posts that your plant looks stretched (doesn't have enough light), but it does look healthy... Just go to Home Depot and get the biggest CFL they have, my local HD has 42w cfls (200w equivalent), but I know some HDs have the 300w equivalent bulbs (I think they are 68 actual watts and run about $15 bucks). That one bulb will get you going, keep it about 2 inches away from the top with a fan blowing over it to gently take the heat away.
As for the color temperature, the "red" lights, ussually advertised as "soft white" are better for vegging (similar spectrum to Metal Halide bulbs) and the "blue" lights, often advertised as "daylight" are better for flowering (similar spectrum to High Pressure Sodium bulbs). If you are only going to buy one, I would suggest the "daylight" bulb.
Most importantly, you can't be expecting too much if you are just going to use a few CFLs for lighting (you'll be lucky to pull a half ounce of decent herb, but it will probably be "fluffy" and light compared to commercially grown weed). You are going to need to transplant your baby into a bigger pot before it gets rootbound, I would say a week from now at the latest.
Good luck with your endevor, I did my first grow using only the 26W cfls (100w equivalents). I had about 10 of them around my plant that was about 18" when I enduced flowering, and it grew to about 30" before it chopped her down.

Thanks for the help, i never imagined they took this much concentration lol. But i guess it will pay out in the end? I dont even know what strain it is.. its just out of some stuff we got. The stuff was goooood though lol. I have the light about 2 inches away now, and i have my window unit ac on because i dont have a fan yet. I have a reflector lamp with the bulb in it, like the kind that would go in a snake cage. Some other guy said its not stretching..?

Don't mess with your plant this early in it's life. If you are worried about vertical growth us Low Stress Training to keep it under control. (LST is really just a fancy way of saying bending your plant and tying it down so it grows bushier, more horizontally instead of straight up.) Anyways, don't pinch the plant anywhere.

The 42 watt cfls put out almost 3,000 lumens, which will be enough to grow your plant about 8" tall on it's own. After that you will need to add supplimental lighting, aka more cfls on the sides because the light from CFLs diminishes very quickly. (3000 lumens @ 2 inches will be under 1000 lumens at a foot.)

Iamstoned is right, I said the opposite of what I meant. The "red" are similar to the HPS and are better for flowering. The "blue" or "daylight" are more similar to the MH and are better for vegging. Sorry for the confusion. I need to ease up on the bong hits and hit up my bed instead.

LOL! ITs straight, I got what you meant, i have read about the red and blues before I just didnt know what blub puts out red and what puts out blue. But that guy who told me to pinch it ... well.. i dont know about that. Im not gonna do that.
