Day 22: Current Situation (pics included) Looking for advice and giving some too

What I have learned from what you are about to see:

1) Foxfarm Ocean Forest + 20% Perlite or just straight ocean forest is great

2) Start off with good genetics from the seed company

3) I have spent around $800 already for a 10-30 plant grow op and I have not even bought the HPS yet, Make sure you either already have the money or can afford to purchase things in stages. I did stages and I HIGHLY recommend purchasing everything relativly quickly

4) Secure your CFL's hanging from a cord very well, or you will come home to a plant that is 25% or more burnt up

5) I have kept my mouth shut so far, only 2 people know, my baby brother and my business partner who is guiding me step by step and investing in on 50% of the equipment. He gets a 10% cut because it is all being done at my house despite the fact I dont know anything about this other than what I have read.

6) If this is your first time, there may be nights where you get very nervous, sometimes you will get so nervous you body will itch all over from the tension and you will think you have bedbug's. Just take a shower, relax, think about why your thoughts are silly and you will soon be passing zzzz's

7) Dont bring girls/guys to the house if you cant completly hide your grow.

8) Dont count your chickens till they hatch. I started off with about 25 seeds. Currently have 10 plants and 3 seedlings. This was my first time and I used jiffy pots, bad freaking idea.

9) Dont use jiffy pots, ever, ever, ever. Rotted about 6 seeds.

10) If you are ultra meticulus like I have become, you will do the following things to ensure safety:

1) Google: Securing Windows, and find a site that teaches you how to properly secure windows

2) Install Truecrypt, Encrypt your boot drive and also create a truecrypt partition of a few gigs to store your videos, files, accounting logs (yes thats how i monitor spending and calculate ROI to see how profitable this is come yeild time) and to hold opera+tor

3) use tor. Go get Opera+tor or Vidalia Bundle + Firefox portable and throw that stuff on your portable drive (except vidialia bundle). And then go on hidden services and go to the hidden wiki, go to the hard candy part of it and it will tell you how to make firefox leak safe. Visit this site and any site that pretains to drugs via tor.


Now, my grow log and questions if anyone can help or give any open advice.

I have the plants under 6 fl tubes and 4 CFL's for the veg stage, they are in a 5x2 area. The area is not air or light tight by the loosest defintion. Since I am using a smaller area than the closet i kind of just draped across some plastic with mylar stapled to it then i stapled that concoction to the wall to create the 4th wall.



The seeds (fem's) were put in jiffy pots (never use jiffy pots) on November 10th and transplanted into small soil containers November 15th.

November 30th I placed them inside the 3 gallon containers (10 of them). However, because this is my first grow, I made the mistake of not putting enough soil in the containers D:.




There also seems to be a weird thing going on with one of my plants on one leaf, isolated incedent, dont know what it is.



2 cfl's on a y connector fell into 2 plants and burned 25% of each of them off, they are now growing at an incredible rate (i guess because the plant gets to focus on the rest of the branches instead of the large lower one that just burnt off :(



So I wanted to know if I could get some help with some of the questions I have, any help outside of what I am asking would be great as well, all advice is appriciated.

1) I have transplanted 2x with no known reprocussion, is it cool if I do it a 3rd time, basically by lifting the plant up by grabbing as much soil and dirt as possible putting more soil at the bottom and reinserting. Any alternative advice would be greatly appriciated

2) Ever since my last transplant (7 days ago) I have not needed to water the plants at all. My analog water meter says they are 5 on a scale to 10 and if i stick my finger deep in there its pretty wet (lolololol). Is this normal?

3) Right now I have a total of 6 FL tubes and 4 CFL's is that enough for a 5x2 room with this many plants? We are getting a 600 or 1000watt HPS soon.

4) What do you think about the level of growth with my girls? it has been 15 days since they went into soil.

Well, first off i did the same thing to transplant my 3 1/2 gallon pots the other day. I do this every time i pot them so i can leave room to add more dirt later.
I do this so that when the plant's roots grow to the max of the pot, it focuses more on foilar growth, from what i understand, and then if you repot the way tyou did, the roots grow bigger first, then the top part gets bigger.
I plan on doing this again to my next set of plants, transplanting, about two weeks before i flower, so it grows bigger roots, then switch to 12/12, and see if it does anything for the buds.

as far as the HPS you're getting, it's a good thing. I started out with four plants in a filing cabinet, check out my grow journal below to see what that turned into from CFL's at first.
Next time you plan to transplant, pot it kind of low in the bucket, like you did before, and then when ya go a few weeks you can do it again if needed. I'm in 3 gallon now, but will probably be seeing 5 gallon buckets here soon.
They look about right for 15 days with flouro's.
More pics would help.

My own personal method of transplanting is to cut off the bottoms of the pots that im using, and just slide everything into the new pots shock free. i use growbags though ,so its a little easier to make this happen. If you leave the roots and the soil undisturbed, the plants will continue to grow as if they never were transplanted in the 1st place. it took me 2 tries to get it down perfect, and even the plant that i ended up dropping, lol, turned out completely fine in the long run..

It really all depends on the plant itself. with my grow at seedling stage, i found that i was actually watering more often than usual, but then again i was using much much less water than i do now. If your soil is moist still and your plants are still growing just fine, then nothing is wrong. its different for every plant/growroom

Go with the 1000w setup. Get yourself a digital ballast, and spring for the extra MH bulb. this will enable you to get rid of the cFLs and tubes altogether, and use nothing but HIDs for your main growroom. you should still get bang for your buck though, and use the tubes for a cloning chamber or somethin - but then again, if your growing perpetual, youll probably have to end up getting more than one light anyway, lol. Lemme make it simpler (even for ME to understand, lol) - For vegging, your lighting seems to be just fine, but once you go into flower, your gonna want some OOMF! in your lighting man, your gonna want it to pack a punch. so getting that HPS is your best bet for sure, and youll see a difference in the growth right away. If you DO decide to go perpetual, then you can use those flouros and CFLs for vegging in one room, and then use the other room for flowering plants with the HPS. but youll figure it out man, growing perpetual is a little more involved than that :D


4) What do you think about the level of growth with my girls? it has been 15 days since they went into soil.

For being so young, i would say they look fuckin awesome. I have two WWs right now that are almost 3 weeks old and still havent branched out their fan leaves - all the branches are still tucked in, close to the main stem. its wierd, and i know itll grow out, but they should be lookin like yours by now, lol. Your doin fine man.



---I might have missed it, but did you say you plan on topping your plants?? n about how big do you intend on letting your plants get before you flower them? im asking because depending on the space you have, topping would probably be your best bet if your not doing LST or any other method to keeping height down. I have 6 fully maturing plants right now starting their 3rd week in flower, and theyre just about 4 ft tall overall, n i topped them twice, lol. If i hadnt topped them, they would be around 6 ft tall right now easy. Plus, topping does make the plant bushier. In alot of cases it doesnt affect the yield at all, but the bigger you let your bush get, the greater you increase your chances of getting a bigger yield as opposed to untopped plants. Go check out Greenhouse seed co's youtube videos. they top their plants almost all the time and their yields are pretty fuckin rediculous, lol.


Your doin just fine brother, keep up the good work. it looks like between you and your buddy, you guys got shit figured out pretty well with this thing right here. N it doesnt hurt to be computer literate either, which you clearly are, so props to you for that shit too man. Just keep doin what your doin, and i didnt see you say anything about what your gonna do to control odor. In about 2 weeks (not even that) your gonna have some SERIOUS odor problems in your grow area, and its gonna seep out into every other room in the vicinity of your grow dude. Invest in the best carbon filter you can find. i bought a growbright jr filter, and its a piece of shit. i had to replace it with a CAN filter, which are really really good, and worth the money. When it comes to odor, thats the BIGGEST giveaway when it comes to people findin out about your grow. Invest in a blower and a GOOD carbon filter. Its worth the money. N a whole shit ton of incense, lool.

-- One more thing, sorry, lol. If your gonna get a HPS/MH setup ,dont matter if its 600 or 1000, your going to have heat issues in your growroom if you dont aircool the bastard. Get yourself a setup that either comes with a COOLTUBE, or buy one seperate. its worth the extra money. That way, you can use the high powered blower that you bought to go with the carbon filter, and air cool your light at the same time as it scrubs the odor from the room. its a simple setup - all you need to do is hook up your filter - ducting -fan - ducting - Cooltube - ducting - exhaust. This will ensure that the fan is sucking air from the carbon filter/growroom and blowing the air through your aircooled light, and then exhausting it out of the grow area. Without an air cooled hood/reflector on your HID lighting, temperatures can get REALLY hot man. best investment in the whole grow is the lighting, and the fan that cools the lighting, lol.

Wow thank you all for your interest and advice! I am going to do the sliding buckets method because that seems like it will work great and i get 3gals for dirt cheap!

As far as scent goes....

nothing yet :(

I can already smell it in my room after I come home from work. When we buy the HPS (next 4 days) we will also be buying a false door to the closet, a filter, and currently we have a 4'' inline blower.

do you think that will be enough (total size of the room is 5ft x 6ft? 4'' inline blower + carbon filter? Also, buy can filter or make our own?

Also, is it ok/safe to store soil outside in a shed in an urban area? I have an outdoor closet I can use for this but I dont want to spider mites or anythign evil getting in my soil (yes this sounds like a dumb question but i am a noob lolol)

Thanks man, I will bring this up with my partner and see whats up. Definantly sounds like a mandatory investment though. This is going to end up costing me 2k, oh well good thing i have a post-degree job that I hate.
