Dark Period Before Flowering?

I know its been touched on before, quite some while ago. I was curious if anyone has had any success or opinions on giving a dark period before 12/12 switch? Thanks.

Dark period before 12/12. mmmmmm........thought that might make them stretch more..........a gradual demise in light period to reach 12/12 could be better

The idea behind this I BELIEVE is that the onset of flowing will happen harder and quicker causing less time in that first five days to a week and a half where you are kind of kicking over instead of fully budding

I remove all the fan leaves, flush with several hundred gallons of water and do dark period of at least a month before the flip to 12/12 and before harvest.

deal with it....

We are all dumber for having read this, you are awarded no points, and may god have mercy on your soul.

The theory from Arjan was that the plants still veg for around a week when going to a straight 12/12 and that inducing a dark period before changing the light cycle lets the plants know 100% that they are supposed to be flowering. I've been doing 36 hours of dark before 12/12 for a few years now and I will say that pre-flowers will start to show around day 4 or 5.

interesting to know. I like a little stretch time in order to properly position the plants for flower. But i am currently growing a strain that hasnt stretched and at this point i hope doesn't. Maybe i should do this, does it basically just skip the stretch stage?

IMHO it does not "skip" the stretch as much as just speed up the transition between veg/flower.
But that theory is debatable to say the least.
