my current grow is going well, i would say. It's a cfl tent grow.
My first problem: inadequate ventilation at at night. ( i have no exhaust system. Daytime i keep the tent open and the fans going. in the beginning of the grow during the seedling and vegetative stage i couldn't get the humidity past 40 percent even with a dehumidifier.
As the season changed the weather april showers have made the air dank. Now my daytime humidity is ok ( 50 percent) but with my tent closed at night. It rises up to 80 percent:shock: this is a month into flowering.
So after scanning local harware and department stores for cheap dehumidifiers with no luck I decided to get Damp Rid. I put one jar in there, and this morning after opening the tent ( it's raining and very humid) it read 80 percent with the damp rid in there. Tonight before i closed the tent i put another jar in there to see what happens.
MY QUESTION... HAS ANYONE USED DAMP RID WITH ANY SUCCESS??? and can it be toxic or unhealthy to my plants??
and on that note a TIP...

Anyone thinking about buying a tent. SPEND YOUR MONEY WISELY AND DON'T BE CHEAP. I went for the cheaper tent and with the material it's made of when it's sealed with no ventilation, it's like a giant ziplock bag holding moisture. now this is my fault because i don't have proper airflow but, i believe in the long run. Pricier tents are that way for a reason. They aren't as flimsy, don't rip easy, and probably have better airflow and reflection than cheaper models.:leaf:

cmon man i haven't found a decent answer yet... BUMP
Yes, I've used it. It does an ok job. I usually use 2 buckets at a time and it lowers my humidity by about 5%. A dehumidifier is way better but they use a lot of juice and give off a lot of heat.:leaf:

rep for the reply man! i haven't found any info on how it works in grow rooms. so far this is the most knowledge i've gotten on it! 5 percent eh?? yeah i have two buckets in there and that's about how much it's reducing my humidity. SO THE SHORT ANSWER TO DAMP RID... it sucks basically if you have a high humidity problem. The dehumidifier i would love to get. Even a small compact one but .. yes they are a bit expensive.

dehumidifier can be found for about $150 and it uses about 400Watts. I suggest adding a larger container to the dehumidifier so it doesn’t fill up so quickly.
Either vent or get a dehumidifier or risk mold.

Im just a little stoned but try and put a glass of ice water on a 10 ply paper towel. the humididty in the air will condensate on the glass and be absorbed into the paper towels...ive never tried this but it might be something to try. just dont let the soggy towel sit there all day, maybe let it sit there for like 30 min or untill the shit looks real wet and just take it out and put a dry one in.....like i said im stoned

I would agree with that assessment. Humidity goes way up during the dark period because the temp drops. The colder the air the more moisture it holds. It's very difficult to control humidity during the dark period because of the dramatic drop in temp. Transpiration slows down but doesn't stop at night. As long as you are keeping your air moving (with an oscillating fan) at night and your daytime humidity is acceptible, and you aren't working with a strain that's particularly susceptible to mold, I wouldnt' worry about it too much. You could put a small heater in your tent at night in order to keep temps up and humidity down. Otherwise you'll be battling your humidity and wondering why it won't come down at night. Best of luck my friend. :eyesmoke:

Yeah i expect it to raise. The only answer is to add REAL exhautst or some sort of ventilation in there .. should've been done a long time ago but i'm nearing the end of the harvest. The night time is very humid but we'll see how long these damp rids last in there. With any money i can make from the bud fans are one of the first thing i'm getting. Especially with the summer coming

i have two of the round damprid containers, it seemed to help lower the humidity about 10-20%, but that was with 2, and they needed to be refilled after 3 weeks. i dont recommend it, it doesnt help a lot. might as well get a dehumidifier or cut them before they get mold! lol

So my daytime humidity stays pretty stable ...never goes over 50 ... usually drops to 30 percent depending on the weather outside. .... think i'm still risking mold at this point??? i mean risking it enough to have to cut early?????
You're lucky the damprid lowered your humidity that much .... i'm getting the same results as doc ... two containers and about only a 5 MAYBE 10 percent drop.

i too am suffering with humidity. Or the after affects of a few nights of. Forgot to exhaust one day on two sealed grow tents and pw snuck in with a wet venganance. I now exhaust all night and every two hours in the day. Also am treating plants with serenade. It is a foul smelling concoction but is supposed to work. Cleaned my veg plant killer. I also thro inb some damprid until I can afford dehumidifiers proper. Altho with the proper venting I dont think I need them for a low plant counts. Just bigger exhaust fan.
