DADT: Thanks Robert Gates and Thanks President Obama

In a small but greatly appreciated step (too me and MANY others) to ending the unnecessary policy of Don't Ask Don't Tell, Defense Secretary Robert Gates announced a change in how existing DADT rules are interpreted and enforced.

Until there is a repeal of DADT, these new rules will reduce some of the unnecessary discharges if it is found out a service member is gay. As I understand it, anominous "tips" will no longer trigger an automatic investigation, the admissibility of third party testimony will be greatly reduced, and a high ranking (at least One Star General) officer is required for dismissal.

Thank you to General Gates and our Commander in Chief for this small but very much appreciated step in the right direction. There are some very patriotic girls and guys who are anxious to serve our country. This will definitely help.

This is an incredibly great country and I am very proud to be a citizen. :-P:-P:hump::hump::peace::peace::-D

This type of weak sauce makes me feel the opposite actually. A step in the right direction, for sure, but still....

I am not a homophobe, I have worked with and associated with many Gays. I'll just reveal this little ditty: when I was a youngster, 20 and very straight, I was in my bunk one night, Army, and this guy came and sat on my bunk and put his hand on my joint. He asked to suck it. I jumped up and almost attacked him, but instead I calmly told him no thanks, I got my thrill with girls. Now, how is this going to play out in the military. I'm sure that gays will be embrazened when they have free reign. I've gone 69 years without sexual contact with the same sex, and plan to finish my life intact. I wonder how many straight young men and women will stay the course when pressured by the gays. I have no animosity with gays as long as they stick to themselves, but being unleashed may cause mega-problems.
