cutting technic

Greetings RIU!

I was thinking about how to increase the size of the main colas on my plants, and how not to deal with all the little "popcorn buds". When i put my ladies in veg, i let them grow as the want, i only remove the lowest branches up to 5-6 cm. As they grow, i keep trimming their underparts, where there is not enough light. Then i put them in my flowering box (1,2x1,2x2m), where i trim up to 10-12 cm their main branch. (I'm not really familiar with the technical terminology).

My problem is, that as they are growing, they grow a lot of side branches, with a lot of buds on them, but the lower ones are very small, and at the harvest, they usually ending in my future-hash bag.

I really would like to find a method to lower the number of those little buds, keep the yield (or even increase). Also does it affect the plant anyhow if i remove those wanna-be-buds on every second week of flowering?

I really appreciate your help!

what most people do is they take off all the growth on the lower parts of the plant so the branches end up being 1 big bud per branch, other than pruning and good training and LST theres really no other way to do it. IMO, i dont know why people do this anyways, look at it this way, a HPS light will only go so far down in the canopy. so say it goes down 12 inches, that means you can have nice big buds from the top of the canopy and 12 inches down, youll end up with about foot long buds. u can either trim the lower parts so it all grows into one bud, or you can leave it, make sure it grows the nice 12 inch buds still but still have the little shit to. what im saying here is by pruning the plants lower parts yea you might end up with only nice big cola buds, but you WILL lose yield. some say that they cut the bottoms of the plants so the plant can concentrate its energy on the top buds....well...in my personal experience i have had pruned and regular plants and by cutting the bottoms off, it doesnt really make the buds any bigger on top, again this is just my personal experience and opinion. therefore, i just leave the shit and make sure i make the stesm long enough to grow those nice big ft long colas, harvest them and then a few days later i take all the little buds out that finished up and got a little bigger when i took the main colas out, it ends up working out nice and while the bud is small, its still bud and bud is bud dude, no matter the size it all has thc in it. thats the way i look at it, just my 2cents, good luck

if you tye it when its young and also the remaining colas its will make the stems stronger and every cola will have a stem the side of a pencil. that and some nitrogen when you do it, water once a week and rest of time ph water. you'll have it but also it takes a good month or so.

Pruning the lower branches and shoots allows the plants energy to be focused on the top, where the light is most intense and available. The tops are also the "main" colas, so they will be bigger anyway. Leaving small underdeveloped flowers underneath wont increase your yield. It will increase the number of small, underdeveloped buds you end up with.

keep the lights as close to the canopy as possible (to keep stretching minimal, unless its a strain characteristic)

that should leave you with an even canopy & help control "side branching"..
