go to pawn shop and buy a jigsaw. look around for a drum sander drill attatchment if your really anal.

This is generally for smaller holes. If you are looking into making larger holes, a jig saw is what you need.

I use a hole cutter which is different than a hole saw. I think they do a better job at larger holes. The one I purchased is even adjustable, http://www.holepro.com/drillpress.html.

Those are nice but they are a bitch to use if you arent using a drill press.
I recomend you pick up a set of hole saws. Ebay sells shit ones that work pretty well for unbelievably cheap. Heres a link to a 16 pc set for under 15.00 shipped:

I own that same set and it works well for the price. A nice, quality set would cost around 10-20 times the price.
Jigsaws work too but the hole isnt as clean and you cant work in a tight space, which is tough when your having to cut holes inside your fully-constructed cabinet or in a wall or some other tight space.

I never use mine with a drill press and I haven't had any problems.

A ton of small holes that I had to cut for the intake area. All the bigger ones were cut with the circle cutter on it's smallest setting.
I can cut a wide range of holes and I never have to worry about the plugs getting stuck in the hole saw.

Right on. That's great to know because Ive always liked the idea of the adjustable hole cutters.
I only said what I did because I've used one similar to yours, except that it only had a cutter on ONE side. Makes sense that it would make a world of difference to have both sides cutting at once. You can imagine how near-impossible it is to use a one-sided cutter in a standard drill!

Oh definitely have to have a two blade model for a hand drill. I did have a cheap one blade model and your right that it's only really usable with a drill press.
The other thing I like about this type of cutter is that the blades are replaceable. I can pick up a pair of blades for $12 and they last a long time.

You can get hole cutting drill bits for cutting big holes.. Hell even 12 inch holes and larger.. I ran one that cut a 16 inch hole in a concrete wall before.. Granted, that one was Extra Duty and water lubed/cooled. but still, your statement about hole cutters only being for small holes if wrong

You can buy a hole saw that size at tool king or harbor frieght. CHEAP.

Sure can, and then when I need a different size hole I could go out and buy another hole saw.
I'm not saying that hole saws don't have their place but I love the flexibility and quality of cut that I get with a circle cutter.
