Hey everyone, apartment dweller here looking to move from a tent to a DIY cabinet. I have a rough idea on requirements, dimensions, etc. Just looking for a few answers and your suggestions and opinions.
Dimensions: Again, I'm an apartment dweller who unfortunately lives on the third floor with a narrow staircase. The maximum I could go would probably be 4 ft wide x 2 deep x 4.5 high.
Requirements: Two separate chambers; main one for flowering and another much smaller one for clones. Proper ventilation and air scrubbing. I have all of the hardware already for this. Ideally it would have the electrical components plugged in to a high wattage powerstrip mounted in its own compartment, maybe accessible from the side. It has to be 100% light tight, which won't be difficult. If I can think of anything else I'll edit them in.
I'll be running a 600 watt hps / mh in a cool tube vented with a 190cfm fan. I've got a ~300cfm carbon filter that my 100cfm duct fan should be able to pull enough air through the whole cab from the intake at the base of the cab. I was thinking of running a t5 setup for clones, I'm open to suggestions on this as long as it's not cfls, I've had my run with them and am over them for my needs currently.
I'm open to any suggestions on design opinions. I really have no requirements except that there be no access panels/doors on the rear. I'll have to sketch something up later but essentially I was thinking that the main chamber would go on the bottom, the above would be the cloning chamber, and then possibly an area above to house the fans, ducting, excess wires, etc. I think that my 100cfm fan should be strong to draw air from the bottom through different compartments (Light tight vents between compartments will be necessary) and vented through my filter, correct? I'll be fighting heat with my 190cfm fan that will have its own ducting; in through the fan then cool tube for positive pressure, which means the intake will have to be mounted in an odd spot, like I said, I'm open to suggestions. Though as I mentioned I would prefer to have an access panel on the side to house wiring. The goal is to make it appear to be a simple cabinet that has one cord coming from it.
I'm not too terribly knowledgeable on cabinetry or woodworking, but my grandfather - veteran grower of like 30 years - has his own workshop and will be providing help along the way. We're pretty sure we're going with a mix of Cedar and Pine.
So there's my idea. Pick it apart, give me suggestions, show me yours or just drop some advice. I'll keep posting as I go along.
