Curing...whole colas or nuggies??

After drying and before curing....is it better to jar whole colas intact....or break them down into smaller nuggies? It seems that smaller nuggies would cure faster? My colas could fit whole into quart jar though if it doesnt make a difference

bigger buds take longer to dry out. i have found that breaking everything down to a similar size after you trim is a good way to ensure everything gets dried out equally.

I hate to break up big colas. Instead I just give them an extra day or two hanging before putting in jars.

We dry them on the branches (trimmed) until the buds feel almost crispy- then remove them from the branches and seal them in large mason Jars overnight-- by then, the internal moisture that remains permeates the whole bud, making it soft again---- we just fill the jars 1/2 way and lay them on their side-open- until the buds feel dry again (gently mix em a couple times a day) then seal em up again.

once you can do this and they feel "perfect" after being sealed up... you can leave em jarred up and just open them for an hour a day to "breathe" while they cure...


As for big buds-- unless they are for showing or for someone who demands big buds-- break em up!
No sence in having large chunks of un-smokable stem in there!


This is by no means the only way to cure- and maybe not how others would do it-- but Draigs been doing it this way for years- and other growers we "share" with always ask why ours burns more even and is never harsh... I truly believe this is a BIG part of it!

I leave them the way that nature made them, big and fat.

Besides, I like seeing peeps faces when I pull the monsters out.

smaller peices, less mold risk and less hastle with them being too moist ect. But either way works. I like to make most peices as uniform in size as possible to ensure even drying and such

i like to experiment with this when curing, currently trying to work out if leaving big buds and having that bit of a longer cure is beneficial to the smoke.



plus you know, sometimes its nice to pull out a cola thats probably bigger then your smoking mates dick.

Less mold risk wins everytime for me.
