Cure Your Crop

Do you like to smoke weed that's harsh and bad tasting? Curing is an important step in any cultivation process. People are eager to smoke their product before it properly matures. Buds are cut off early and dried too fast. To attain the proper taste, aroma and maximum potency it is important to cure buds and not just dry them. Here are a few ways to do this.
1. Flush out the plants nutrients (fertilizer) right before cutting the buds off. You can buy flush at any nursery or just water without fertilizer for the last week or so. Hydro systems flush in 4 to 8 days, while soil takes 7 to 14 days to flush. Don't use a slow release fertilizer indoors.
2. Harvest crops when 50 to 80% of the pistils (hairs) have turned color. Leave a little bit of a stem on each bud. Cut off the bigger fan leaves and use them to make pure thc honeyoil.
3. Drying buds must be done slowly so the biochemical process goes on properly, but not too slow that mold is produced. Control the humidity with ventilation. The first few days you allow more ventilation and as the plants get dryer you allow less. Drying can take up to six weeks. You will then have potent, tasty, fragrant nuggets to smoke. We hang our buds upside down. The plants or branches should be loose and have some space between it and the next. A good cure lasts for from 3 to 6 weeks but good results can be had in two weeks or so. The idea is to remove the water slowly enough to let biological processes take place to convert the sugars and starches into harmless and flavorful compounds. Sugar or starch will give a harsh smoke that hurts the lungs. Plants need sugars to live on and they produce them from fertilizer and sunlight. This curing process also breaks down some of the chlorophyll which give herb it's green color. Too much chlorophyll gives an unwanted leafy taste. Never use newspaper to cure anything because of the poisons and toxins.
Study your plants and as soon as the stems are a little stiff they have lost around 50% of their moisture. As soon as the leaves get crispy, reduce the ventilation. Crispyness should happen in two weeks. Never cut off ventilation completely. When the leaves get stiff it takes anywhere up to 4 weeks to finish. When to stop drying is your call. Sometimes people go by the color of the herb as it gets less green as drying goes on. Buds stay greener than leaves. You will be the proud owner of sweet smoking good tasting nugz without any harshness. The plants will begin to stink as you dry them. This is the nice curing smell everybody is after.
4. Adding flavors with the proper technique will produce your favorite variety of smells and taste like whatever you want. Do not pour syrup or similar sugar based flavorings on the harvested herb because sugar will make a harsh taste. The best flavor enhancing starts while the plant is still growing. There are two main approaches, inside out and outside in. You can apply flavors inside the plant while it's still growing and you can try to add flavors after it's been harvested from the outside. Select a flavoring that is very concentrated. Take orange for an example. You could use orange juice but it contains natural sugars. You will find some concentrated flavor extracts in the grocery store. Vanilla extract is cheap and readily available, so is lemon extract (cooking variety). Other extracts can be found in stores that specialize in baking supplies. Vanilla is our favorite taste. A coffee filter works well for filtering fruits but it'll take a while to filter it all. You may have to change filters a few times. Concentrated extracts are the best to use. Use extracts shortly before harvest. Most extracts have sugar in them. Sugar will ferment and decay rapidly, even more so in a hydro unit. With hydro put the flavoring in the water between 1 and 3 hours before harvest. Anything longer will produce harmful bacteria. Plants draw up solution fairly quickly, one hour should be enough for some of the flavoring to reach the top. Three hours should not be enough time for bacteria to grow. Dump out the solution right afterwards and clean out your unit. Use plain water for a few days before harvesting your hydro crop so all that will be in the water will be the flavoring. Soil growing is easier. Let the plant dry out a little before applying the solution. Do it in the watering just before harvest. Give your plants plain water for the last two weeks and near the end do this process. When the plant is somewhat dry and craving water, give the plant the water with the flavor when it's a little bit thirsty and it will draw it right up. One hour is more than enough time. 5. Don't treat your whole crop this way while experimenting. Dirt growers will find this easy because they could use something different in each pot. Hydro people may want to isolate a plant or two with the solution. This wouldn't be very hard because you wouldn't need circulation for the short period of time it would be soaking in it. Try guava, pineapple, grapefruit, cherry, mint or even pina colada. Stronger and more concentrated flavorings will have a more pronounced effect than more dilute products. You need gallons of orange juice to get what you want but a half ounce of concentrated strawberry essence might do the job nicely. In short, experiment and see what works for you.

It's nice that you are trying to provide information, but you should really give credit to the original article (which is also formatted properly, and much easier to read than your wall of text.)
