Cultivating "mean" plants around your grow area

While I don't consider myself and expert on native plants I do know quite a bit. I have 2 species in mind that grow very thick and very thorny. One is a briar (almost a vine with BIG thorns) the other is actually a berry bush that is also a climber but with much smaller thorns that are a huge pain to get out. Both are very hearty and well adapted to the climate. I am thinking about actually cultivating these in my indoor setup and then transferring them once I find an area to grow.

Another idea was to use bamboo, I know where I can get some and the stuff grows SO aggressive in my climate. Within a year or so I think I could have a WALL of bamboo but the issue is that it is not a native species and would make people like me go WTF? if they saw it.

Do and of you guys do this or am I crazy?

Got blackberry bushes growing everywhere like a fence. They still try to go through a thieve.

Or... poison ivy/oak. Stuff has never bothered me, though, but it keeps most away. Problem with poison oak is that it does change color with the seasons, as to the berry brambles.

Problem with that is that is that its not something people can see while they are walking around and avoid. Big thorny bushes make most people keep out.
