Crows first Grow

I just started up my grow a bit more seriously today. Me and a mate had been growing some plants from some random seeds we found in gear. They have just been growing by the window for a couple of weeks or so. So i bought myself a grow tent, a 150w MH light and some nutrients . I also got a fan, but no carbon filter yet. So heres what it looks like..

I will buy some proper seeds at some point, im just kinda using these plants as a trial run.
I think i am doing everything ok, but if anyone sees something ive done wrong the help would be great.
I have a few questions and any imput would be awesome.

1. Should i run the light 24/7?
2. Will the heat show up if a chopper flew over my house? Its in the cellar, and i guess this size grow isnt going to give off that much heat.
3. Is it ok to have the light where i have it? Should it be closer? At the moment i have hung the light using a couple of guitar strings!, so i cant really adjust the height. Should i get those easy roller things?
4. How long can i get away with no carbon filter?
5. I have air being extracted from the tent, but no air blowing in, i have the flaps on the tent up, the fan does seem to pull quite a bit of air through but will this be enough for now?

As i said any help would be much appreciated!
Much love Crow.

Lookin pretty good. Looks to be a bit stretch IMO, might want to pack up some more soild or get a support going so they dont start bending over.

I would go 18/6 lighting
No the choppers wont see you or your heat signature
didnt see the light, ill look again in a bit. EDIT: you should prob get the lights a tad closer.
you can go the whole grow with no filter, depends on how paranoid you are.
you will need some fresh air coming in the tent some how. The fan may suffice for the time being.

Thanks for the input Jeep. I will work out a better way of hanging the light so i can get it closer, its not overly hot in the tent, so i dont think it will burn them. I think the plants are stretched so much because we started them by a window. Ill set them on a 18/6 cycle, which is pretty much what i did yesterday. I will definately invest in a carbon filter soon. I am a bit overly paranoid at the moment, just cos its my first grow and all that. I keep thinking that when i get back from work i will come back to a burnt down house! lol.

Yeah you should be all good. What I use for my lights are the huge zip ties I have laying around at work, a cheap adjustable hanger =)

Yeah I was paranoid at first as well about smell, so i decided to put my cat litter box in the room that the closets in,, haha poop as over taken theweed smell =)

Lol! Funny you should say that...when i got home from work my cat had decided to go for a crap in a large pot full of soil that i had got ready for repotting one of my plants!
Bloody cat!

Im wondering whether i should buy some decent feminized seeds and scrap the ones im growing now?
The 150w MH light im using doesnt seem to give off enough heat in the tent, would a 400w be much better in a DR80 tent?

Your actually worried about getting more heat? Jeez I wish I had that problem =) Yes the 400 Will give more heat. I am using 1 400w for my 6 babies in flower, and I am using a 150w MH for my 4 clones.

This pic is with a 150w

PS. lucky your cat only crapped in you empty pot. I originally had 8 plants when I started and on the 1st day my cat ate 2 of them =(
and I was just watching the first episode of trailer park boys yesteraday, and Ricky was using a cat to gaurd his plants.. HAHA

You should most likley get the light closer to your babies, the one big plant in the front left corner is about 2" away from the lights now, not showing to stress, but I am in the process of LST them.

I have actually raised the plants by putting them on plastic crates from work, this is while i wait for the easy rollers i have bought to arrive.
1 of the blades on a leaf has not formed properly, it looks almost as though something has eaten it, not too sure though. I would take a picture but i cant find my camera charger at the moment.
I am worried a bit about the heat because i thought it needs to be humid and warmish. If i bought a 400w then i could also use this 150 for cloning.
Man there are so many variables to get your head round!
My cat doesnt seem that fussed by the plants, he prefers hanging round when a joints on the go! He does seem to want to get in my grow tent everytime i unzip it though!

Yeah there are alot of variables, I always say do what works for you. Yeah you want the humidity a little higher when there newwer but not the whole time. Is one of your deformed leaves a lower leaf set?

If you correct your parameters all the new leaf sets should come in fine.

Good luck.

Awesome. I smoked some Northern Lights at a music festival a while back, we were in our own world for that week!
I would really like to grow White Ice, i love the look of the plant!
I am thinking feminized seeds are the way forward for me, so i dont have to worry about sexing them.
Do you think i should carry on with my 3 randoms?

I would, I wouldnt see why not, even if the bagseed you got it from did not look great, if you care for them and show them love they will be great, Just watch for males.

If you have acess to clones I would say go that route, its true genetics, and 2 weeks quicker than a seed. Although I have heard that Seeds are easier for the beginner, Ive never had great luck at germing them so I always stuck with clones.

~good luck.

Ok. My grow has been going well. The plants are big and looking pretty good. I have a major problem though! One of the plants is Male, i have removed it now. It definately let some pollen go, will this screw the other plants up. I havent started flowering them yet...does this make any difference?

Does nobody know? I think it should probably be ok.

This is one of them, im pretty sure its female as it has the white hair things coming out of it, i think it has started flowering because i havent kept a strict light cycle..not sure though. I guess i should change the light over now and start flowering. Its hard to tell where im at as they grew on the window ledge for ages.
