Couple Questions

Hello,

I've been searching through the forums and have learned a ton of information from this site, it's awesome. I'm just curious to find out some straight forward answers and just general advice. This is my first grow and I like to get things right the first time.

I've attached a image of the grow area that they have been in. I'm running (2) floros 4ft long (4 bulbs total , 40watts each.) They are about 14" tall now and appox. 30-60 leaves on each plant. They have been growing for about 2 months now and have only been in this grow room for about 2 weeks, in which time they have done very well. They have been beaten up badly but are doing much better now.

Some info quick.

soil: premixed store boughtt
containers: 1gal
water: once a week w/ a dulted(sp?) Alaskan fish fert
ph level: ~7.4
air temp: 75F
humidity: ~50-60%
light cycle: 24 on / 0 off
Lights are 2 x 4ft floros w/ glow lights

I'm planning on getting a 400w HPS. From what I've read, HPS seems to be the route to go with.

Anyways, on to the questions.

1) Is this an okay setup for right now?

2) I'll be able to use the floro's w/ clones/seedlings and then the hps for veg/flowering correct?

3) Is a 400w HPS too large for this area or just right?

I started to mist the leaves yesterday w/ water and the leaves almost doubled in size, in a 12hr period.

4) Does this mean I have some sort of imbalance in the plants rooting system that it isn't getting water to it's leaves? Or is my soil not draining fast enough because i only water once a week?

Thanks in advance,
Mr.Bud

i have no experience .... go 18/6 ... more light will cause more males... so if u value having more female's dont go 24/0

if yur growing under stairs,,and there 2 months old,,still on veg time, unless you've topped them yur gonna have some height issues,,but I believe you asked if this was ok for now, never mind,,just stoned,,LOL

I feel this isnt' right. I run 24 hours and usually have a 50/50 of males and females. The way i look at it if for some reason this does have a bearing on whether or not they will be males or females that must have had recessive genes to cause this to begin with. If that's the case I don't want them anyway. Why would I want to grow a plant that has recessive males genes that could be triggered by the environment. My luck the thing would go herm on me late, and then what, I grew the plant till the 4th or 5th week of flowering then the thing just spits out bananas'. That's to say I even believe it to be true, which I don't.

i used the Exact same lighting as you 24/0 for 3 weeks, 18/6 for 1 week, and vegged 3 plants in 18oz party cups 12-14"tall
after turning to 12/12 and sexing i had 2 females. Could be luck.
Flowered them for 4 weeks in a 1x4x4 box. 1 turned out amazing at 3 1/2 feet tall, the other was a bit shorter and much looser buds.

left out some info:
flowered in 3-gal containers
only used nutes for first 3 weeks of flowering
watered as needed (approx every 3 days) during entire grow.. seed to harvest

sometimes I read faster than my brain will comprehend, (is it the weed?) you are right, just reread and Jorge Cervantes book says the best PH level for soil is 6.5-7.0...one too many bong hits for me.......

Thanks for the replies.

I'm not planning on budding these plants, I'm waiting until I can take clones off of them. I'm going to bloom the clones and see how they go. I remember a pretty good saying that said, seeds don't make pot, seeds make mothers that make clippings that make pot. Or something like that :)

So yeah. I don't know if I'm over shooting myself by trying to clone with the first batch but from my understanding, that's the way it should be done.

They are 2 months old, but they have had a very rough 2 months with the incorrect light, barely if any light for some days, heat issues, being transplanted 7+ times, incorrect soil at the start, extremely poor ventilation for a couple days, yada yada yada, it was basically hey lets try this and it's turned into much more.

Since the new lights, they have improved dramatically.

HoLE, I have enough room to grow them 5-6ft, possibly more.

So what do you guys think about running a 400 watt HPS there? I can remove the floro's and put them on shelves in a different area so that this area would be converted to the flowering area of the grow operation.

I'm pretty excited.

Was just talking to someone about this. Finally a new guy that get's it! :joint:

what was the size of the room? How tall are the pots? IMO, I like around 5-6 ft of grow space up top, at least close to 3 ft wide.

I have a picture drawn rather poorly by me in paint. (no skills in ms paint) It's roughly 10ft long by 3.5ft wide and round 8-10 ft with stairs crossing half of the space.

See attached picture.

Thanks

Your straight IMO. Just get some ventilation going. Some mylar, no foil. Wood, no cardboard or panda film with velcro.

Alright, that's cool.

One last thing, is the misting a good thing to continue to do? I've misted them 3 times in the last ~24 hrs and the leaves have expanded rather well. :)
