ok, so i have a couple plants going, they all seem a bit small, but that may hav been a result of cold temps, which i have corrected. the main problem is the large spots and yellowing on this particular plant. these ones are bagseed. i am running 3 23w (100W equiv.) cfl bulbs about 3 inches away, 24 hours light, today is day 15, they are in Pro Mix - Ultumate Organic Mix for medium, there is a constant temp of 80, havent given any nutrients yet, i've tried watering less frequently, more frequently, recently i repotted them with more perlite in the mix for exra drainage and fresh promix in case there wasnt enough nutes left in the potting mix, just afraid to give them any actual nutes at this size. here are some pics of the plant that is having issuesIMG_20130607_220529.jpgIMG_20130607_220536.jpgIMG_20130607_220704.jpgIMG_20130607_220721.jpg any suggestions would really be appreciated, thanks.

also, here's a pic of one that is doing nice, but is still pretty short at only 2"(ish):IMG_20130607_223601.jpgIMG_20130607_223448.jpgIMG_20130607_223433.jpgIMG_20130607_223421.jpg

Sometimes seeds are just weak, lift the lights abit see if they perk up, they dont look super happy there saying to me its a little hot...also make sure you have great drainage, add a few more holes! be persistent the good ones look ok.

make a list of things to check e.g temps, ph, leaf tips.

sounds like alot of work but keeping a diary means that when something goes wrong you wont panic, you can go through the list and make sure everything is spot on e,g if i know my ph is bang on, i know im NOT seeing ph problems.

also it means if something changed i know that that is the problem e.g moved from cfl to hid, leaf tops yellowing.....tells me the plant is under stress from the move to the hid, so i raise light and lower slowly till there happy!

get those leafs pointing up to the sky!!!

I would think a good place to start would be more , intense lighting. I'd let that soil dry out then hit them with 1/4 strength nutes. They look hungry (N) . Good luck.

Thanks for the replies, after putting them in some new pro-mix, they are all looking healthier, the leaves on the one that was having most problems have lifted up a bit(still light and have those dark spots, but much better) have moved bulbs up just a bit, things are looking better. Will post pics after I run some errands

EDIT: here's the pics of the problem plant:IMG_20130608_154848.jpgIMG_20130608_154912.jpgIMG_20130608_154921.jpg

I was really wondering about this, just a bit afraid to give them any actual nutes, with them being so small. Hence why I repotted instead Lol, I'm kind of a noob here, with nutes and stuff

Also, I'm on a bit of a budget, thinking about buying a hps from amazon for 60 bucks, but other than that I'm pretty limited for lighting costs

Dont let the soil dry out completely especially right before hitting them with fertilizer. Water until you have some runoff, then lift the pot. It is heavy. Water again when it feels light. Are there holes in the bottom of the pot for good drainage? Stop transplanting them.

Those plants are almost seedlings and need very little nutrients. There is no way they used up the nutrients in your original soil.

BTW, I thought promix contained no added nutrients? Why is the perlite blue?

You dont need more lighting. If anything I would back the bulbs off a bit. Thats a lot of light/heat for plants that small. If your room is 80, the tops of those plants must be way hot. 24hr light is not necessary and cause damage. Go with 18/6 or 20/4. They will be happier with some "rest".

Get them in good soil. If it is amended to provide nutrients, dont feed them. If not, feed them a light concentration of a balanced fertilizer. Go with an 18/6 light schedule and back the lights off until they get bigger.

OK, I'll try to answer these questions in order...

1: yes, I have plenty of holes for drainage. Still not sure there's enough perlite in the soil though.

2: I have no idea if there's nutes in my pro-mix, the bag is very contradictory.. Suggests it does, but also suggests it doesn't. I assume it does because I have 2 healthy plants growing in the same mix as this one.

3: the blue and red is not perlite, its a small amount of (new, clean, inert, and smooth) aquarium stones that spilled into my soil while I was adding perlite lol.

Extra info:
- they are small but this is day 17.
- I'm using 3 cfl bulbs (23W)
- the temp was 80 at the tops of the plants. ( that's where I took temps from)

Thanks again for replies :)

PS. Its starting to look better I think..even after I crumbled a bottom leaf trying to see if they felt dry.. Apparently they did.. Color is getting better, less droop.

you need better ventilation mate!

p.s i love mixing thoses coloured fish stones into coco, i use red for 1 strain green for another etc n they work very well!!

I have a 12 volt computer fan hooked up to the shelf, but running either 12v or 5v through it cools the shelf down too much. from what I've heard I shouldn't let temps get below 75 during veg? Even at only 5v the fan brings it down to like 68. It gets pretty cold in the room they are in, but that's the only place I can have them for now. Right now I just have some cheap inkjet photo paper for reflective material on the walls of the shelf, so there's a lot of places for heat to escape, I am going to be switching over to some mylar emergency blankets once they show up in the mail. That should trap more heat and I should be able to use the fan once I switch to the mylar.

Also, I didn't mean to put the aquarium stones in, but they do look pretty neat in there lol

I have looked around a bit for some of the black and white poly, All I've seen so far has been rolls, I only need a few feet lol my veg shelf is only like 2.5' wide by 1' deep by 3' tall

I know the hydro store in the city sells by the foot but that's 3 hours drive away
