Cooling my lights push or pull air?

Setting up my inline fan for my lights, should I pull fresh cold air in and through the lights, or pull hot air out and exhaust into another room? I figured Id get better cooling to just push the fresh COLD outside air through my lights and into my room, than to pull the hot air out, but just wanted to see which was more eficient. Also I have a 5X3X8 foot grow room and a 250cfm inline fan, will that be plenty or should I upgrade the fan?

I would say that pulling the hot air away from the bulb is better than pushing. When pulling from the lights it is like a vacuum suction which will help with possible obstacles. I would think that the push would cause air to bounce off of an object and therefore cause a vortex to take place in places where space is smaller than where the air is coming from.. I hope you understand what I am trying to convey here :)

Yeah that makes perfect sense, I guess really either way I go will allow me to cool, but yeah it douse make sense to pull the hot air out. Thanks

sure, to answer the question about the fan.. it depends on the size of your grow tent, pulling through a filter, pulling through a light, etc.. It looks like 250 cfm should be ok for the size of your area. I am currently running a 4 x 4 x 6.5 DIY tent and I am using two 120mm computer fans that equal 140 CFM and the sides of my tent are pulled in due to negative pressure. My intake is probably not the greatest, but I have a fan pulling air from outside in.. little one that sits in front of my 4" intake. I have recently purchased a tent which is the same dimensions, but I will be using a higher CFM (with speed controller) to move air better, as it has 3 mesh vents on the bottom 3 sides. I have read that you want to replace the air in your area 3 to 5 times per minute.

idealy you would rather push air than pull(less hot air on the fan motor) but often this is just not possible due to the arrangement of equipment. but either way will work fine.

Im forced to push from my fan to cool my 1k because of how im setup. Works just fine for me im able to keep a 1k in a 4x4 the same temp as a 600w 4x4. 600w uses a 192cfm 4" inline to exhaust tent/cool light and the 1k tent has a 192cfm 4" to exhaust the tent and a 500cfm 6" to cool the light.

pull the air. if your pulling thru a charcoal filter make sure your fan has enough cfm. if you feel it doesnt suck hard enough and you cant afford to upgrade your hoods upgrade your exhaust fan.with a adapter for the ducting
