Cool tube issues! Please advise!

Hey guys. Still building my stealth cab and I'm having an issue. I decided to use a 400 watt hid in a cool tube, but it leaves no room to attach any ducting. I've only got about 3-4 inches on each side of the tube. I have some extremely powerful fans (computer fans on roids) I could mount on the inside of the cabinet either pulling air in, or pushing it out. These are industrial fans, 5.5" in diameter and about 2 inches thick. I'm thinking I could put on on the side pulling air thru the tube and out and another at the top of the cabinet venting out hot air. This would make me have to keep the tube stationary, and adjust the plant heights which is doable. The cabinet is 36" wide, 18" deep and 65" tall. Not sure why the pic is sideways. Any advice? man the cooltube is a good choice but the size u have is the limiting the factor for u

the best advice would be to
1 get a bigger cab
2 change your cooltube out for a LED system ..............this would be the best choice the heat varible is removed u would just need to have a exhust fan at the top to remove the hot air

with what u have the set up to run a cooltube (moving it up and down with plant height/ able to change the bulb) would mean altering the cab to away that is easly seen and just breaking the whole reason u are doing it

see u have a HPS light in a small area those make alot of IR heat so u need a good fan hooked into the ducting running at a high cfm for that area (80cfm to 100 cfm) should be more then enough to deal with the heat ...........and u can run a passive intake (just make sure the intake is on the other side from where the exhust point is .....exhust is high right intake goes on low left to get the best air spread)

Thx for the reply. The stealth factor for me is only about a 5 out of 10. I don't mind a few holes in the cabinet as long as it functions as it should. It's tucked away out of sight.

here is how to do it ........move the light all the way to one side (leave 1 inch for the air drawl) on the other side make a 6 of 7 inch hole (i go 7 it will allot it to move in and down little easier then 6)

u run the ducting tho the hole to the cooltube and tie it in as for the fan u mount that on the outside of the cab .............now where is the trick the lowest point u can move the light is not going to be all that far since the ducting can bend/move one way


i figured out how to do it but it is work .......one side of the cab will need to have a 6 and half inch slot
like this the black part is the wood the white has been cut out to a size of 6 1/2 inchs
here is the fun part u need to fit in sliding pannels(telescoping) on of those pannels u make a 6 inch hole in and add a flexie duct coupler this is where u tie the cooltube and little ducting to it in the inside on the outside u hook anouther peice of ducting up with the fan to suck

as u need to move up or down u slide that one peice with the coupling unit this will allow u to lower the cooltub but keep the same air flow out (not being reduced by bends or squeezed shut from moving down

if u need ideas where to get telescoping panneling ........look at old window ACs or fans ............i think holmes (walmart will carry it) sells a 2 fan system for like 20 bucks has 2 of them on the side of it should be about the right size

the area it does not cover u can use soild peice of wood in and just remove them slide the one peice down and put that peice in the place of the one u slide down to seal it use weather striping that they use for doors and windows (think they make a double sided one with a groove down the middle to make a really tight seal )
