Contamination

I'm fairly new to this. This looks like contamination. Is this salvageable or should this jar be dumped out?Contaminated.jpg

Defiantly looks contamed.

PC/ Steam sterilze your jar for 60 mins then toss out the contents so you can keep the jar.

I'd bet that the cost of running the PC for an hour is probably not much less than the cost of a new jar, and definitely doesn't save you anything if you value your time at all.

Why be wasteful?

Running your PC for 60 mins might cost you a buck in gas tops.

Also where are you going to buy single jars at?

Everywhere I go sells them in cases.

I use enough jars that it wouldn't be an issue to chuck one. I'm not in favor of wasting things that can still be used but I don't like fucking with mold.

I had similar stuff in a jar. Actually a lot more. I did a G2G transfer and picked it up. I left it alone and the mycelium kicked its ass.

Don't be afraid, the mycelium has big head start on trich.

Let it colonize and then dump it in the compost/manure. I don't think trich does well in compost.

That's true. Mycelium is resistant to certain contaminations or is able to completely or somewhat fight it off if it has the right conditions to thrive. That means you probably preparated the substrate really well in terms of moisture content.
i really think everyone should at one point or another make a 'contamination' run. Just inoculate your jars in an abandoned pub or something of the sort at open air and you will see some fucking crazy shit grow in there! I bet some of them have the power to make you violently ill no questions asked.
Something else that might be fun (though i have never tried it) would be to allow mycelium to somewhat colonize the substrate 20%-30% and then just open the jars and leave them outside on a shady corner for half an hour or so. That way one could probably see mycelium losing or winning the battle of its life.
I had a gilrfriend who once had to get some yoghurt and leave it out for a month and report on the bacterial/fungal competition and it was fucking awesome. It was like the second world war on some yoghurt. I think at some point she had 4 different living organisms competing. Eventually common mold won the whole thing over.
