are 5 1/2" pots too small for an 18" plant that just went into flower? do i need to transplant?
edit: in an ebb & flow setup, hydroton, 1000w hps (cooled)

No, that sounds about right. The time to transplant is usually indicated by the bottom, not the top. If your plant is still growing and roots are coming out of the holes in the bottom.... u need to move up. If not, ur fine.

i have a smaller plant (about 4" right now) and today i saw a huge taproot sticking out the bottom about 3" or so... what should i do about that one???

Pop the plant out gently by tilting the pot about 120 degrees and then a quick snap downwards (don't jerk it too hard, it shouldn't take much) to break the pressure. If you have trouble getting it out...ur not ready. Besides the big root, you really want to see a lot of smaller capillary roots.
