considering flood+drain, but would need lg. resevoir

So, I'm considering building a fairly large flood and drain table (~ 8'x3' for a SoG trial, but the math says that even for ~2 inches flood, I'd need nearly 30 gallons of water.

Approximately how many inches would I really need to flood? Can I use rockwool soley as the medium, placing them in pots without hydroton to keep roots from mingling with one another (so plants may be moved if necessary).

Hmm, do I even need pots?

Anyway, about the table...from what I gather, pond liner is the way to go (thanks to VV for that DIY thread). But, I'm starting to think that I should just use a drip system, because of the resevoir size might get out of hand. But, many drips in a SoG also bothers me, when thinking about possible hassels.

I'm going with SoG, but assuming adequate lighting 2 x 1k light and conditions, would it be better to go 1 plant per sq foot or 1 plant per 1/2 sq foot?

Sorry for so many questions together. Thanks for any advice! :peace:
