It has taken a long long time to get a law on the books.
It has been blocked by Republicans and Dixiecrat over and over again in any form the effort has taken

RIPower Emmett Till

Just to argue the wording a bit. Lynching has always been a hate crime. The bill didn't make it so. It just legally recognizes it as such. Not trying to diminish your point at all.

Um, always? Then why is this a big deal?

I don't agree with you Lynching blacks hasn't been a federal hate crime.

I'm betting even today there are Congressmen who voted against making lynching black Americans a Hate Crime.

Passed House (02/28/2022)

Emmett Till Antilynching Act

This bill makes lynching a federal hate crime offense.

Specifically, the bill imposes criminal penalties—a fine, a prison term of up to 30 years, or both—on an individual who conspires to commit a hate crime offense that results in death or serious bodily injury or that includes kidnapping or an attempt to kidnap, aggravated sexual abuse or an attempt to commit aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to kill.

For Whites, naturally they just went out and lynched them a few Negroes. They didn't need no law.

The latest lynchings / hate crimes are George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery.
So it is still going on and with Arbery the local law enforcement wasn't going to get off their white asses until they had to. They were going to let the lynching go unpunished.

I was watching the News and the first attempt to pass a "Hate Crime" law for lynching Blacks was first tried in 1918.
White Senators have blocked every effort since then for over 200 attempts to get a Hate crime on the books.

Let us face the truth people of color live in fear in the USA even now!
