Congrats, you made it. This is a topic that i have seen new growers ask the same questions over and over again about. Here is what will hopefully be a somewhat comprehensive guide to some basic and simple rules of harvesting.

This is the hardest part of your entire grow!!! Do not ruin all your hard work by harvesting a week early. Be patient and wait it out, will be worth it in the end.:eyesmoke:

As in all aspects of growing, there are many different ways to harvest, dry, and cure. This is a simple beginners guide.

The one sure fire way to tell when your girls are fully ripe, is by looking at the trichomes on your plant.

If your plants are covered in trichs, but every single one of them are still translucent or clear (like a rain drop) then your girl is still immature. This bud is still smokeable, its just not to the plants full potential. The more clear trichs you have the more cerebral and sativa like your high will tend to be.

When your trichomes begin to turn milky you are coming into ripeness.

When your trichomes are some milky and some amber then its the perfect time to harvest.

As the trichomes turn more and more amber, the thc in the glands begins to degrade. The more trichs that are amber on your plant, the more of a couch lock/indica high you will have.

You can view the trichs better with a jewlers loupe, telescope, or magnifying glass. These are available at stores. I dont know which ones. You do some work and figure it out.:blsmoke:

As far as a dry goes, i highly recommend leaving your buds hang dry at least 5 days. Even when they begin to feel crispy on the outside, give them another day. Their is more moisture retention on the inside of the buds than you realize. An extra day after they are crispy on the outside, will allow that moisture to dissapate.

When you feel they have hung long enough, cut the buds from the stalk and place them in jars. Store the jars in a cool dark place, taking the lid off a couple times a day for fresh air exchange. The buds will release moisture into the jars and taking the lids off allows new air to come in. Weed is like wine, the better the cure the better the product. The longer you leave it in the jar with the proper conditions the better bud you will have.
