Congrats, you made it. This is a topic that i have seen new growers ask the same questions over and over again about. Here is what will hopefully be a somewhat comprehensive guide to some basic and simple rules of harvesting.
This is the hardest part of your entire grow!!! Do not ruin all your hard work by harvesting a week early. Be patient and wait it out, will be worth it in the end.
As in all aspects of growing, there are many different ways to harvest, dry, and cure. This is a simple beginners guide.
The one sure fire way to tell when your girls are fully ripe, is by looking at the trichomes on your plant.
If your plants are covered in trichs, but every single one of them are still translucent or clear (like a rain drop) then your girl is still immature. This bud is still smokeable, its just not to the plants full potential. The more clear trichs you have the more cerebral and sativa like your high will tend to be.
When your trichomes begin to turn milky you are coming into ripeness.
When your trichomes are some milky and some amber then its the perfect time to harvest.
As the trichomes turn more and more amber, the thc in the glands begins to degrade. The more trichs that are amber on your plant, the more of a couch lock/indica high you will have.
You can view the trichs better with a jewlers loupe, telescope, or magnifying glass. These are available at stores. I dont know which ones. You do some work and figure it out.
