Compost tea brewer/aerator

Kind Sir

Hey there, I want to brew a tea after work but dont have an brewer. I have hydroponics pump (picture below) and want to use a small bucket for this. I read about people making homemade "vortex" and another one.

I have the pump, tubing, air stone and resoivors to make one. Can I get an idea from someone? Thanks everyone.

Vortex are cool- love the airlift style design but I'm like you: I only need a few gal of tea every few weeks or so. I use an 18 gal tote bin with a Walmart airstone and a fish tank heater which works fine to bubble a 48 hr tea. I don't even use a stocking or any kind of filter but I do need to soak the airstone after use to keep it from getting clogged.

I put my airstone in a small bucket to aerate my tap water, just to try it out atleast. I didnt know you could make a tea by just put the ingredients in reservoir (in panty hose or not) and brew a tea. Whats the difference between doing that and using a DIY Vortex type?

Not much difference actually but the vortex does aerate more evenly than an airstone plus at a much higher volume. If you are just doing this for a personal grow simple airstones work just fine. You will have to clean them up afterwards but it doesn't get easier than this. IMO the fish tank heater really helps keep temps optimal for microbe production. I do a lot of my work in a cool dingy basement so the fish tank heater helps keep the water brewing at a tepid 70deg F which really bumps up their populations. The air stimulates & keeps them from going anaerobic but keeping your tea a nice room temp or slightly higher while its brewing is just as important IMO.

Thanks a bunch I didnt realize its so simple. Now I can concentrate on seeing what teas are used for what! Thanks man

I prefer the KISS(simple) route

for veg I gather all the nettles(stinging uk) in my hood

about 3 usgallon(15 liter) pot full, mash them up

then insert to 2 half gallons(10 liters) of water

allow to stew/bubble/decay over the next 4 weeks

long is best, strain then ..dilute at 20 to one

apply 1x time per week, thru veg

for bud/flower use the same method but with comfrey

you do have a comfrey plant ....? lol
