COMMENTARY: How buying Ontario’s legal pot will be like a blast from the past

Conspiracy to traffic what is currently a controlled substance.

Remember it’s been pounded into our heads time and time again, “the law is the law as it is now“. Writing up contracts to export medical cannabis to other legal countries is one thing, but there’s nothing legal about recreational cannabis in Canada yet! As long as people are still being charged with possession and trafficking recreational cannabis...why not conspiracy to do the same?!?!
Conspiracy to commit a crime needs mens rea to have value, there is no criminal intent if the contract is explicitly only valid in a legal context. I'm sure a lawyer would be able to explain it better but there is clearly no intent to break the law as the system is rigged to their advantage.

I'm sure most pharmaceutical companies start working on marketing/distribution while their drugs are working through being regulated. This is no different if you presume legalisation is inevitable, at least their form of legalisation. It doesn't mean it's right but business doesn't operate in a vacuum. Some always have advantages because of their positioning.

Which is why I think there's more value is focusing of forcing the gov to create fair micro grow regulations so that the entry point for the legal market is accessible. If underground growers had the chance to compete against the LP's I have no doubt they'd beat them out.

Hopefully it's delayed so that a logical law can be drafted.
We all know that isn't going to happen, so why would you want a delay? There are far too many ex-politicians and top cops with their hand in the LP industry. Ottawa will circle to protect their own. The only way to fix this is to fight their rules in court - and we have an impressive track record there. I say implement legalization yesterday and let's start the process of striking down unconstitutional laws.

I say we should strike down the unconstitutional law makers...

Realistically I agree. That doesn't mean I shouldn't expect more from the gov, ie basing their policy on science & logic. My guess is the bill will be based with some amendments & we'll spend the next decade in courts making it constitutionally valid.

I agree, until the law makes sense people will keep doing what their already doing. If they get the selection, quality & cost competitive then you'll start to see a shift. The longer they push their swag at high end prices, the harder it'll be to get over that stigma.

The jumping to conclusion was meant for GB123 as he keeps repeating the same point from the same perspective without elaborating & then makes assumptions about me. I've appreciated your comments & thanks for explaining that you're pulling those # from quarterly reports.
Sorry for the confusion
