Coco/Perlite Mix Help?

I hate Hydroguard personally it creates a slime that is disgusting and it clogs and contaminates airstones in a negative way. I would look into slashing that out of your regimin and use something better like Drip Clean by H&G. Coco likes to breathe and shit like that will just clog it up and make your fertigations less frequent and just f*ck stuff up like in my pic. Everything was going fine for 8 weeks with my Autopots until I added HydroGuard to the reservoir. Clogged up all my run lines completely and required complete reinstallation of everything. My fault because I chose to use a sh*tty product in my application.

I've been growing in Pure coco OR Coco/Perlite (depending on container size) for 2 years now. You're going to want to shoot for a 5.7-6.0 PH with most "coco" base nutrients. Shoot for a higher PH during VEG and start dropping PH into flower to boost PK (Phosphorus & Potassium) uptake.

How long did you have the solution in that res for? Hydrogaurd lasts for about 5-7 days then the bacteria starts to die off, requiring you to add more when you start getting a smell out of the tank. I mix up enough to last a week and never have that problem. Maybe a little on my pump that rinses off under hot water. You think that's bad, give southern ag a go lol, way more buildup. People started using it in place of hydrogaurd because it's half the price. It works but it's very short lived requiring you to keep adding it every couple days to be effective. Drip clean isn't a beneficial bacteria like hydrogaurd, it's not going to keep bad bacteria from growing in your res. Those are enzymes that eat salt buildup. Not the same at all. I run hydrogaurd and flying skull z7, which is similar to drip clean. Those products have two different jobs.

Coco is a great medium. It requires more attention but you gain much more control over what the plant gets. Float your PH up and down with each mix of nutes as you go so you can get max nute uptake. This chart will help as a reference. If you are 5.5 to 5.7 every time you are cutting out Calcium and Magnesium.

Hydroguard contains bacillus amyloliquefaciens, which is one of the best studied and effective plant growth promoting rhizobacteria. I prefer the Southern Ag biological fungicide since it's far more potent, but nothing else comes close to helping prevent root rot AND promoting growth by solubilizing phosphate. I think trichoderma might come close in soil or coco, no clue if it works in a traditional hydro setup.

I appreciate all the information. Especially the ph share. I'm in my last week of veg so I'll incorporate this. Thank you!

Wow! :o Thank you for sharing this. I will def be keeping silica in my formula! So much info to absorb. :D:mrgreen:
Silica is also great as a natural PH up if you need it. Also, fulvic acid is worth looking into, and it works as a natural PH down, although I would use it regardless of the PH effects-Bioag Ful Power.

Solid advice, I like to float my PH between 5.6-6.2 in Coco. Works great vs holding a solid PH of say 5.8 or 6.0.
