Cloning Question

very confused on what to do..some many opinions on the subject.

should i soak rockwool in just ph'd water (5.5) or should i include additives? what are good additives? How long should i soak?

once the rockwool is ready and i've inserted my clone, how often do i need to water it? some say never water it and just mist the leaves. If the humidity is right, would i need to water the rockwook again?

Most cloning instructions aren't answering these questions for me. please help.

thanks in advance.

I soak my medium in a cloning solution that is ph'd to 5.5. I prefer Rapid Rooters over rockwool but to each his own.

Whatever you use, soak for a few minutes and gently 'squeeze' them out. You want it moist, not saturated from the beginning of the process to the end. Most are able to accomplish this by misting twice a day and using a humidity dome. You might have to actually water the medium once or twice during the 2 weeks but again, make it moist not saturated.

The medium must be able to drain. If your rock wool sits in water it will suck up that water and become saturated. This will drowned your roots.

I take a full tray and line it with Perlite then drench the Perlite in the rooting solution I used to soak my medium. Then place another tray in that one with holes in it that will hold your medium.

Take your cutting, scrape the outer layer off of the back side of your cut, (or however you want to do it) place it in the rooting solution for a second or 2, roll it in some rooting gel or powder and stick it in your medium. Keep the medium moist and check for roots in 2 weeks. You are shooting for something like this:

i was a hydro shop this weekend and they told me that if i were using rockwool that i should presoak the cubes in a solution that cloneX makes. The bottle of this solution is like $20/$25 and you mix it with water and of course you'll have to ph it.

Other than that you would just need to mist the leaves from time to time and mist the inside of the propogation tray; burping it once day should be fine depending on the weather

Yeah, I use CloneX. About half strength. Mix up a gallon. You'll have some for your Perlite and some to soak your rockwool in. That bottle will last you 5 years.

I also suggest a rooting gel. Cut, solution, gel, medium. I also cut the big leaves half way. This helps the plant and with room in the tray. These grew a bit but you can see where the leaves were cut.

** no need for additives, just keep cloning simple. soak rockwool in r/o water, pH 5.8 - 6.2,
if you can-- also make sure the cubes temps are between 69f - 82f .
how often do you water?? --really depends on your surrounding conditions, just make sure the cube never dries out completely :)
even if your misting, you still need to show the roots some love ;)

---cheers

I clone in Rapid Rooters.

The perlite sits in the bottom tray, away from the clones. It holds moisture to help keep the humidity up inside the dome. If you really want some good tutorials, go to youtube and search Clone and Rockwool. Nothing beats a visual demonstration.

You can work with what you have. You dont have to put clonex or olivias but people sware it makes your roots bigger faster. And you dont want to "squeeze" grodan ever. You cup it in your in your knuckles and thumb, and flick your wrist like a fag. it gets really dry with a few flicks. Then just respray the tops. squeezing it kills your oxygen in your grodan. Just use sprayer and mist it. I find it works better to mist than to pour when working with grodan. If your not running hydroponics, I wouldnt reccomend using it

ok...i'm straight outdoor and soil. i'm trying to clone using both rockwool and soil just to see what works best. So far all are holding up but not roots showing yet...it's only been 5 days though...will wait to see.

If your using soil, I wouldnt reccomend using grodan at all. Just fill your tray with dirt and plug em in there and mist it. Wintess the miracle!

sorry probably confused you...i meant some are in soil and some are in those mini grodan blocks.

thanks though!

Ya but unless your using your grodan starts for hydroponic purposes. your gonna have too much moisture retention around your stem when you water it in soil.

never thought of that....but it's not possible to transplant it to soil, right? i see tons of people doing it

I clone second time. And second time it didn't go right. Again - dead.
Tempr 30 C; humidity - 75 %; 2*18 w fluorescent lamp cool white (2*1350 lm)
Help!!!!

What, no opinion?
Maybe rockwoll better then soil?
It would be cool that somebody share your experience.
Thanks to all future answers. .. ;)
