Cloning orchids....propagation

Hi I really love the way orchids look and would like to take a try at growing them indoors with my cannabis plants. I wanna buy a few varieties and grow them, I don't know much about them. My understanding is some can flower by photoperiod but others by temperature? Any recommendations on varieties to go with? Your help is much appreciated.

I keep some phalaenopsis orchids which are the easiest to grow. They suffer from too much direct light and wouldn't do well near grow lights. They generally flower for me around this time of year but I don't know if that's because of increasing daylight or not. They are very easy to care for. I water once a week and feed orchid bloom booster once a month.

If you read anything on orchid propagation you'll learn it is extremely involved with a lot of lab grade equipment and skill involved. For advanced growers and professionals only.

I was hoping I could throw a cutting in some coco or water cloner. I'll have to look into this further. Thank you for your detailed post. So maybe I'll put them in the veg room if they don't need so much light.

Most orchids are propagated from vats of undifferentiated cells in constantly rotating vats of nutrients. It's wild. The seeds are microscopic. Have fun!

I got a ton of different ones growing in my yard because they do so well here in Hawaii. Everytime we get one as a gift we just stick them in the crotch of a tree and forget about them till they bloom again. I never tried propagating them though, all I know is my bottle of physan20 mentions applications for orchid growing alot.

I'd love to grow a bunch of orchids but I don't have time for another hobby. As it is the 30 or so houseplants the lady has have become my responsibility. She doesn't do anything with them anymore except brag about them when company compliments her. She never says that the reason they look so good is because I'm the one taking care of them.

Oh hell, I'm going to buy a couple here shortly. I have to have some. Hopefully I won't go down a path of misery.

Lowe's sells them for big discount after they stop blooming. Distilled water or better for Phals and Dens. Vandas tolerate tap fairly well. Feed @ 1/4 strength of label every other watering. Avoid direct sun or artificial above 30 watts or so. And it takes lowering night temps and room temps in the day to flower them. Only hard till you learn not to over do them. Good luck.
