Cloning Clarification

alright so i cloned one of my plants today for the first time, it was about 1 month old, about 8 inchs tall, and topped so it had about 8 clones worth. My question is if i cut the right branches off. Basically i took off all the growth, and left all the fan leaves along with about 1cm of stem from where the clones were taken from still attached to the main stalk but there were no leaves on half of these 1cm stems including the two main kola stalks. My question is will all of this stuff grow back like when u top or did i just kill any chance of my plant having side or top growth?

im really not sure what you talking about, but as long are you left 2 fan leaves youll be just fine, you wont kill any side growth or anything like that

Did you leave nodes on the mother? If you left nodes you should get new growth. I'm not really clear on what you did though.

as long as you have the growth tip still there your golden. if thats what you cut off it may take longer to root but you should be fine. your using a rooting hormone right?

yeah im using a rooting hormone, its hard to explain as im not really sure what to call what i left on the plant, it still has all of its bigger fan leaves on it. i just basically took almost all the side branch off, im wondering where the new growth is going to come from, like will it start going right from part i cut, even if there are no leaves left on the side braches just a small amount of stem

I'd suggest picking up a copy of the Grower's Bible by J. Craventes.

I'm not sure why you are having so much difficulty describing what you did. Are you saying that you cut all the lateral branches from the mother plant, used them to produce clones and are now wondering if the mother will produce new growth?

At any rate, the part of a plant that forms new shoots are called "nodes." You need to leave at least on set of nodes on all cuttings and moms for either to produce new growth. Generally, when you take clones you take them from the bottom of the mom and work your way up. But, you stop short of cutting off all nodes and you certainly want to leave the top on.

If you did remove all the nodes leaving just a stem with a few leaves the plant can never grow new ones. You will have to start a new mom using one of your clones. This is no big deal.

thanks rickwhite, thats what i thought about it, im not even really sure why i did it different this time i mean its not my first time successfully cloning, but yeah i cut off everything except the bottom two because they were to small to take cuttings off, would it be worth it to to keep that plant alive just for the bottom two or am i wasting my time?
