Cloning/Bud/Reversion

When earlier clones died, I took two cuttings from plants that were already in early bud.

I put them under 24 hour a day light thinking they would revert to veg. Now after almost a week under full light, one of them has a more beautiful, big, healthy bud than any of my outdoor plants do. The other has smaller bud but it's already showing trichomes, which none of my outdoor plants are.

Is this weird or is it normal?

Man, I wish I could keep these little rootless guys in bud! They're in better bud than the plants they came from.

Or maybe I should try putting my outdoor plants under 24 hour light. Only kidding, but I'm surprised and hope somebody can tell me why this is happening. Why would unrooted cuttings under constant light have better bud than healthy outdoor plants that are getting the right amount of darkness?

It sounds as though you have tried to revert too late. I think you have a better success rate between 2nd/3rd week flowering. Also, during flowering the more light the plant gets the better. We've swithched ours so that they get 10-15 minutes longer than 12 12 each day. The bud is bigger because it has been getting more light.

Maybe once the flowering threshhold has been passed it is impossible to revert the plant. Therefore you should be able to keep the lights on constantly once revised threshhold has been reached? This is definitely a question by the way.

I think one of the big boys needs to get in on this.

Thank you, skunkushybrid. Those are good thoughts.

The plants were in the second week of bud when I took the cuttings. At least they were in the second week of bud that I could see. I'm a newbie who might have missed earlier sign of bud.

Yeah, I hope the big boys will step in here, too. They're very good at this sort of thing.

Just like skunk said more light more bud. It prolly wont get any bigger. It will start to grow leaf again. I would just wait till you see roots and then cut the bud off and smoke it. You will see it wont be that great. Specially as nice as the ones that fully bud outside.

All right, I guess that I'm the big boy.

What you are attempting is really hard on the cutting. Give her some time.
Just now, after 7 days, she is figuring out that she should switch back. She is still flowering, only with 24 hours of light the flowers are getting bigger.

What you are doing with her is fine, it will take 2-3 weeks for her to revert, and maybe another week til you see some new growth.

And don't cut off the buds, the new growth will come out of them.

When you say the mother was in her 'second week of bud,' does that mean that it was day 8-14 of flowering, or was it the second week that you have seen flowers, which is really the fifth week? The later in flowering that the mother is, the tougher it is to revert a cutting.

I'll try to answer that without confusing either you or me. I didn't know that the second week I would SEE flowers is actually the fifth week of flowering.

I would have to say that it was the third week after I looked at the nodes along the stem and compared them to pictures in my growers guide and said to myself I think I see something female happening there. It was the second week since I looked at the ends of the branches and said hey those might be buds and not just more little leaves coming in.

Thanks for the details on what to expect from this clone. I wouldn't have cut from a budding plant if I hadn't killed my other clones.
