Clear gelatin like substance??? WTF?

I've been having some problems with my plants, I've tried a couple of theories, but neither have been able to help my plant. All of her branches are dooping down, almost everyday theres a new dead one. The only thing I've done that made her recover was when I transplanted her from Soil into a Hempy Bucket. So, in an act of desperation, I reenacted the transplant. I dug her up, washed her roots off in water, then H2O2, then water and put her back in the perlite.

When I was doing this though I noticed something really odd...Mixed throughout the perlite I kept finding these small bits of what I can only describe as clear gelatin. I've never seen it before, could this be what's making her sick? Anyone know what it is?

Nutrients? Is your growing medium just perlite? Temperatures? Ph? Lighting type?

Just a thought, you're not using H202 in your watering solution are you? Hydrogen peroxide is used very sparingly, like 50ppm (.025 strength), stronger solutions may react with other nutrients or even the iron oxide, aluminum oxide in perlite.

I did use some H202 when I cleaned off the roots to transplant into the perlite, you think that could be it?

I'm using 1/3rd strength Grow Big and Big Bloom. Medium is about 80% perlite the other 20 is vermiculite. Temp ranges from 70-85 depending on the time of day and how many lights are on. PH is 6ish. I was using 4 CFLs and a 2 foot T5 fixture, now they're in a grow tent and I justhave room for the T5s

So you used peroxide in the first transplant to your hempy bucket, she got droopy, and you re-transplanted with another application of peroxide? That sounds like the culprit to me, probably burned her roots pretty bad if you were using full strength h2o2, even if it was just seconds of contact. The recommended amount is 1/4 of a teaspoon in one gallon of water.

No idea about the jelly though, is it clear, translucent, or colored?

You should probably flush your medium/replace reservoir water, 1/4 nutes, and give her some extra light (intensity not duration). If her roots are really burned it might be restricting their ability to absorb oxygen, might be a terminal condition.. hopefully they'll heal soon, good luck man.

No, the plant was droopy before the first transplant. After I transplanted she preked back up for a few days...but only for a few days.

It's clear.

I remember digging in the garden one day and found clear gelatin shit in the soil where we had put compost in - I think they hold water or sumthin like that, they come with the soil im sure of it

I'm not using soil. I'm using perlite. No moisture retention.

Reciently I just had that happen with MY plants!! Clearish greenish type gelly like substance that is somewhat oily to the touch? It seeped out from the center on mine....then it crystallized. All I know is that my plants started dying like crazy afterwards!

the jelly like substance you are finding is clear and jelly it is a subtansce found in some gerinating soil mixes that helps hold in water and realese it only when the soil dries.

hope i could help :D

I'm gonna throw this way out there.

If a MJ plant is injured it will often secrete a gelatin like substance - it's like a clear resin. Basically, I describe it as the liquidated building blocks of the stem system. Why they'd be in the roots, I'm not sure, but technically there's a lot of building that goes on down there. In short, if this theory is at all correct, then no, the gelatin isn't a problem.

There's prolly not gonna be a lot of information about it on RIU b/c not many people are digging up their roots :p

PEACE!

this happen to me and i know EXACTLY what your talkin about. its a root rot, or virus, appararantly you need to teminate the planbt because it can spread mediums, if ure in soil, its because the medium is too moist. o will try and find out where i got the info
happen to me with clay balls in an ebb and flow
