City Lights/Lightbulb

hey there,

i think it's time to force flower growth on my two beautiful, healthy 4foot+ plants that i've grown in large pots on a very sunny deck. here's the situation:

although it's already september 10, there are only very early signs of bud growth and nothing much has changed in the past few weeks.

i finally (^&%$) realized that the plants were probably getting too much light when it should be dark---I've been leaving on a porch light with a regular old 100w incandescent lightbulb to make the space less appealing for raccoons. There are also street lights that never allow for pure darkness. Although I didn't think it would matter, it's the only explanation I can think of for the lack of flower growth.

On the positive side, the plants have gotten nice and dense (will post pic soon).

i live in Canada close to New York and can expect frost as early as mid-october...to speed things up I read that I could put the plants in the dark for a full 24 hours and shock them into flowering. the plants are too big for any closet in my place so last night i put them in my bedroom which gets some light during the day but is really the darkest place in the house. I'm considering leaving them there for another 24 hours.

anyone have any advice? of course i gotta get them back outside...what about putting some kind of tarp over them to make sure they get a minimum 12 hours of real darkness (no city lights)? they're too big to carry back and forth....i wonder if i can create a tarp with dark green garbage bags?

thanks for helping!

ps...i have given plenty of flowering fertilizer (for the past 3-4 weeks)...have even had some slight burn on them for maxing out the nutrients.

a dark bag or tarp would be fine to cover them for 12 hrs a day & ensure flowering as long as u are gonna be there to cover and uncover it.

your plants look like they have been in flowering for about 2 weeks now
, by my judgment of progress. covering them may help. how many hrs of daylight do you get exactally this time of year?

At this time of year the time between sunrise and sunset is about 13 hours. It's getting a bit cold too and I'm pretty certain I'll need to start covering the plants at night with some kind of tarp. Any ideas on how to make one that will properly protect from frost?
Thanks!
