Choosing between 3.5L and 1.8L pots.

Hello to the greatest community on the web.

I am having some real difficult dilemma regarding my future pot size.
I plan to clone and veg them for 2 weeks and than put them into flowering.
All this is going to be done in coco coir mixed with a bit perlite.

now my decision will be based on the answer of a simple question:
Is there going to be a significant difference in the density of the buds?

unfortunately I don't have enough time to experiment hence I'm here to ask this question.

You’ll have to water more in smaller pots, especially with coco and especially come flower. 3.5l isn’t that big and if pots outside the us are anything like pots in the us they’re probably a liter short. Go with the 3.5s any smaller gonna be a headache

Bud density is independent of pot size. Density is based more on genetics and lighting.

If those two options are your only choices I’d go with the 3.5L pot. If you can go bigger then I would. Something around 11.5L would be best.

A 3.5L pot will need to be fed multiple times a day especially in flower. If you do go with something that small keep your EC low.

Edit: I’d also suggest not using perlite if you want to use 3.5L pots as your final container. It’s going to be tough as it is to keep them wet.

The larger pots for me yield better and the plants grow bigger with larger colas. If your going to grow using fabric pots definitely do not go small. They will dry out faster than you can steadily water by hand. I give 7 gallon pots of coco ~5 liters of nutrient solution every day and they only runoff a little bit. 5 gal or smaller I'd need a irrigation system and I'm not trying to spend anymore money on shit so that is not an option.

When in doubt do a side by side trial, I guarantee the 3.5 liter grow larger buds and yield better.

first of all thank you so much for the replies.

I don't plan to feed them by hand, so its not a problem to feed them every 2,3,4 hours or what ever is needed.
The ladies will be watered by a dripping system while the pots placed on trays with runoff collecting.
Hence my only task will be to refill the water tank once a week and maybe clean it once a month.

the room conditions are great, controlled by A\C and since I don't go for huge quantities I can actually place a few levels of nets to supports them while flowering and give them in general extra care.

Lights: I'm using two 240W quantum boards for flowering and one for veg.

I will rephrase my question as it was about the density of the buds and it has nothing to do with pot size;

As I'm limited in space, and I plan to clone and veg for 2 weeks and than proceed to flowering stage, as my space is limited and I wish to maximize the yield, should I use 3.5L pots and make less pots but bigger yields?
or should I use 1.8L pots but place more of them while I take a bit smaller yields but more plants?
do you guys think this decision is affected by the strain somehow?

and again, thank you all for for the replies and the future answers.
god bless the internet and you all.

What size is your flowering area. Like I said out of the 2 choices, Id use the 3.5l containers. But if I had the space, Id use 10L-20L containers. Id use 20L myself.

You are using 480w to flower. Thats good for about a 12 sq/ft area at 40w sq/ft. I say 40w Sq/ft because my 645w Gavita 1700e is recommended for use in a 4 x 4 area, and thats 40.3w-sq/ft to EQUAL a 1000w HID. Those are Gavitas numbers, not mine.
Going by the same logic and good LED with Samsung Diodes and 480w will cover a 12 sq/ft area to equal a little better than a 600w Hortilux HPS/HID. 12 sq/ft would be about a 3.4 x 3.5 area. I*m sure it could be stretched to 3.5 x 3.5 for 12.25 Sq/Ft. A 600w HID is rated for 9 sq/ft, and is 66w sq/ft
A 1000w Hortilux HPS is 62.5w Sq/Ft in a 4 x 4 area.

Many 5 gallon grow bags are 10 inches across, so you could get about 9 of them in a 12 sq/ft area with a little extra room. If you wanted to cram them in, you could use 16 in a 12.25 sq/ft area.

Also I dont know waht strain of weed youre using, and pot size could also be determined by strain. Some strains gow alot during flowering, some dont. If I had a robust strain, Id give it as much root space as possible. Some strains I would go with smaller pots if they dont grow alot after inducing flowering. Also if the strain doesnt stretch much after flowering, Id veg longer than 2 weeks. More like 4-5. I myself like strains that grow alot after inducing flowering, as this decreases veg time.

Larger pots will usually result in larger buds in my limited experience. I just did a test run with some 2 gallon clones moved them out at the same time as plants in 10 gal pots and it was night and day the 10 gallon plants were way larger, fatter and had bigger buds than the 2 gallons. Bigger roots bigger fruits is what some people swear by. Some growers will argue that it's not true. Trial & Error is your best friend.

I'd suggest buying a composition book just for writing notes each time you go into the grow, any abnormalities, feeding, etc.. For fun maybe do a side by side if it's not too late?

p.s Larger pots will require more veg time to actually get the full benefit. This is why some growers will do a bunch of small plants instead of a few large plants so they can have faster turnover.

even considering you would veg clones only for 2 weeks you would still consider larger pots? don't they need more time to develop a good root system?
atm I have 2 grow areas, veg and flowering, one for mother plants and clones and one for the flowering mammas.
both spaces are quite versatile but as for now im using about 10-9 sqft for flowering, and since they are huge i keep them 30cm away from the lamps so they could catch all the light.

My lamps are
Veg - 1x240W lm301b 3500k
Flowering - 1x240W lm301b 3500k + 240w lm301h 3000k + 2\4 13W UVB10 light bulbs.

the strains I use are Lemon Sour Diesel & Wedding cake, sometimes I try different strains from time to time yet I'm sticking mostly with those 2 until ill find my next favourite.

this is exactly why I want to use a swarm of clones and veg them for 2 weeks in small pots, I think it might just work.
plus I'm going to use coco and now I'm using soil, and from my past experiences I produced quite more with coco than soil
I'd suggest buying a composition book just for writing notes each time you go into the grow, any abnormalities, feeding, etc.. For fun maybe do a side by side if it's not too late?
you know I have thought about it, and I'm going to implement a very nice logging system with alerts and reminders through my phone and PC.

so far I'm sticking to the idea of 3.5L pots with coco, dripping system and putting as much pots as possible, as well considering about adding another 240w board.
As my decision is 3.5L pots, I'm going to still try a few exemplars for 2-3 batches and compare the area to weight ratio. ill try to remember to update this thread about it hehe.

I'm adding some pictures of the current setup. I'm soon moving to a different place and I will have a bit more space to play with, but this is the concept I wish to stick with, planning on a good harvest every 2-3 weeks.

With coco you can do whatever size you can accommodate. I've done solo cup through veg then 1 gallon in flower and I've done 5 gallon all way through. Anything above 2-3 gallon is unnecessary imo. Haven't noticed any difference in density of the buds. This a Pure Michigan in solo cup vegged for a few weeks.

These two plants are in 3.5L (1 gallon) cloth pots. You’ll be fine with that size especially with an automated watering system. These were handwatered once a day and it wasn’t even close to enough.
