Choosing a location for co-op in CA

Hey guys,

3 friends and I are interested in operating a private indoor growing co-op for ourselves, and we're looking for a new location because we currently live in a 6/12 county.

We're looking for a county/city that has maximum limits per patient, and right now this is our list.

For these counties, would the limits be per patient if we were operating a 3-4 person co-op, i.e. 300sqft & 297 plants in Santa Cruz?


1. Santa Cruz: 100 sq.ft. canopy and up to 99 plants is allowable under county guidelines, for a patient or a bone fide caregiver.

2. San Francisco: Patients allowed up to 24 plants or 25 square feet of canopy; dispensary gardens capped at 99 plants in 100 square feet. Possession limit 8 oz. dried cannabis per patient.

3. Mendocino: On March 23, 2010, the county enacted an ordinance that would allow gardens of up to 99 plants with proper licensing

4. Oakland: Indoors - 72 plants in maximum 32 sq. ft growing area. Collective gardens limited to 3 patients.

If anyone has any information that is more recent than the limits I found or anything else we, as new growers should know, I'd be much obliged.

Santa Cruz seems to be the least strict when it comes to patients personal grows, 99 plants per dwelling which allows a hefty perpetual grow. My buddy lives up there and it's a much chiller atmosphere than Oakland/SF but is also closer to "civilization" than Mendo.

i think it all be ok to build co-ops for one or above patients in Santa Cruz, Mendocino, San Francisco. But not clear about Oakland.

I belive berkely is around 100 plants per person or some obscene number like that, although alot of the south bay doctors now advertise "growers license" for maybe 225$ which i belive means they will write you a letter to cover virtually anyt number of plants needed for "your medical condition" ; )

It's about to get even less strict. Just wait for it. They are going to allow private collective grows of up to 9 recs per spot as long as nothing is being sold there. Still bound by the 99plant thing, but damn! 900sq ft!
