cfl's or fluorescent's ?

im planning to grow one plant at a time so i wanted to know which lighting would be best. i know the best types of lighting are high pressure sodiums and metal hallides but im on a budget and im not trying to spend too much. give me your opinions on which you think is better. again i plan on growing one plant at a time and just wanna know which would give better yields

I would personally suggest T5 floreacents, I use it and have good success. You'll get a higher yield than with CFL's.

If only one plant, CFLs might be your best bet of the two. Tubes come in handy for larger canopies than one plant puts out. The 54w tubes are 4' long, so a bank of them covers (effectively) 4' in length canopy and as wide as you have tubes for.

thanks for your opinion t5s sound good

If you are growing only one plant, then t5s are not the best option of fluorescent, imho. You can go with PLLs, and get much more light for your space. A 54w t5 is 4', while a 55w PLL is slightly less than 2'. So you get the same lumens in much tighter space. Lesser wattage t5s are available for 24" but they do not offer many lumens.

I use a 2ft 2 bulb for one plant and sometime 2 if I LST them with great success. Still say it's better than CFL's.

Yea for your situation I would have to agree with brotherjericho, PLL's or power compact fluorescence's are EXCELLENT grow lights especially for veg, they can work OK for flower but you'll need a decent amount to get a decent yield. I actually started a thread about these a while back, wasn't very popular, you can see all the spectrum's the bulbs come in at AH-Supplly on the last post (--->CLICK HERE<---). I know of two website that sell good PLL fixtures, the first is (http://www.grotec.co.uk/Lighting#Complete) The PLL's are the 14th & 15th light from the top on their site, the 14th is their Twin Cuttings & Propagation Light (2 x 55W PLL's @110W is £40.00 or roughly $62 US dollars) and the 15th is their Quad Cuttings & Propagation Light (4 x 55W PLL's @220W is £70.00 or roughly $110 US dollars) For one plant the Twin Cutting's & Propagation would work great for vegging, however to get better quality bud and a decent yield I would suggest (if you can afford it) the Quad Cuttings & Propagation Light, same size fixture but with 4 x 55W PLL's, that said you your gonna need to change the bulbs for flower, the next website is where you can get bulbs at or on ebay. The next website is AH-Supply, (http://www.ahsupply.com/96watt.htm) Their 96W bright kits produce an incredible amount of light, in fact with the reflectors they are so bright they are nick named "The Beast", I'm sure these lights if used properly could grow some killer plants, however they might be a little tricky to hang since they don't have a real fixture to them, basically just one long bulb and reflector but if there's a will there's a way. You can get 36W to 96W PLL's in all kinds of spectrums at AH-Supply, you can also get these bulbs on ebay, just search for Biax T5's.

u will end up spending way more on cfls. i have tried that route.

by the time you buy enough cfls, light sockets, time spent wiring everything, youll realize u could have invested money on something worth while.

that being said a 150 HPS is perfect. no/little heat. so why not? even a 250 isnt that bad.
