Hi everyone, I need help urgently!!! Im starting my second grow and Im going to use a power plant reflector with a 250w bulb for propogation and vegative growth but I cant decide whether to just a buy an extra 1 for flowering or buy a 250w hps. Lumen output (30,000) works out about the same for both set ups but with a hps id have to invest in a ventilation system which would would be good but then obviously the costs an issue. With the cfl set up id be saving money it would be less risk (I live in a shared flat and my landlord pays the electricity bills) but then Id be compromising quality (Im not sure if it would effect yield?) My grow space is roughly 6highX4wideX1.5 deep, Im going to grow 1 HUGE mother plant in a water farm then use cuttings for a SOG grow.

So what does everyone suggest??? I'm leaning towards the HPS setup but Im still undecided....

HID lighting produces more grams per watt than CFL lighting.

You decide which you would be better off with.

How tall of plants will you be growing under a 250-watt, or CFL, setup?

I started with CFL, I scrapped it all and got a 400w HPS, I gave that back to my friend and I now have a 600w HPS. If you can afford HPS go for it, just remember you will also deal with heating issues. I'm back down to a single 200w CFL for vegging until I can figure out a way to keep my tent cooler with an HPS. Good luck

For ventilation Im going to use 3 fans, 1 extractor and 2 intakes. Im going to use a 250w air cooled hp with ducting going to the extractor and one of intake fan. A carbon filter will be linked to the extractor fan. The second intake will just provide fresh air for the whole room. Cost should be between 200-300 for everything. Thats what I mean I though setting everything up is going to take alot of time and cost alot of money. If I just get 1 more cfl its going to be 10X easier. Is it worth it though for quality..?

That's really up to you, I started with cfl and when I realized I would have to keep adding and adding until I have enough to flower I stopped right there. I was lucky enough to borrow my 400w but yesterday I got a great deal on craigslist and came home with a 600w HPS + ballast and a 200w CFL, 2 carbon filters, 1 6" inline fan and some hydro stuff for around $250. I've stretched my budget way outside but I'm hoping it will pay off in the end. Good luck.
