Yes, go with 3 gallon pots, you got the equation down. I have never used such low watt cfl's, and don't know how much they would help hanging out near the HPS, but sticking them where ever you see shadowing would definitely help.
35 dollars for a complete technaflora kit is very affordable, especially if it doubles your yield, a ph paper test kit is 8-12 bucks. Otherwise, I would suggest purchasing Guano to keep your plants going through out flowering. Guano is very cheap, 2 quarts go for 12 bucks. You just add it as a top dressing every two weeks and water. Mexican Bat guano is good for veg, Jamaican Guano for flower, and I think Peruvian Sea Bird Guano is an all purpose fix. Don't worry about the Mexican bat guano, you will never get a chance to use it. I suggest the Jamaican or Peruvian if Jamaican isn't available. Fox Farm, Vermi Crop, Roots Organic all make affordable and high quality soils. Fox Farm and Roots Organic should be available at the local garden center, they will have all the guano you need, and have 3 gal pots for less than walmart probably. Also, fuck walmart, where is your patriotism? Support your local garden center.
You want something rich in fertilizers, and Fox Farm Ocean Forest has a lot of it. Ask the guys at your local garden center, try and go totally organic and don't cheap out on the soil, it is really, really, really, really important. Avoid time release fertilizers.

They should have a little test rod for soil ph at your grow shop. Water that sits at 8 is way too basic for cannabis. Look into some liquid ph down (acid) at the shop as well. You'll need the liquid ph kit but its cheap and easy to understand. 3 gallon smart pots kick ass.. you'll have good results there.

Keep asking questions here if you have them.. tell the garden store you're growing tomatoes.
Another question for my main man. lol...you have been alot of help dude..:)

what do the pre flowers look like that show before you flower them? and that meens a female right? i always thought you had to switch to 12/12 to tell sex... how log does it take to show them....

and about the topping....i wanted to just grow them till there 3rd set and then top it to force the pre flowere shoots out and then switch to 12/12 to force flower ...is this possible? could i do this? i was thinkin about toppin it on its 15th - 16th day...i would top sooner if i could.....can i?

Usually the plant isn't sexually mature until the nodes start to stagger or the preflowers show up. Preflowers look almost identical between males and females when they first start to show (nearly microscopic) but within a couple days the female will shoot out a cute little white hair. At the same time the male will sort of stand up and take the shape of a spade from a card deck.

You can top any time after the third true node. Topping will redirect hormones to cause more branching and may help to achieve sexual maturity sooner, but that is not guaranteed to take place. They may still want to wait another couple weeks before showing. It really depends on the genetics, but I usually see preflowers around 2.5-4 weeks from sprout.

I would prefer not to shop at walmart...they are idoit's.
But i have this hustle...where i can shop there for free... up to $200 a month if i so choose.....but i usualy ony spend $40-$80 a month there at walmart.
Remember its not out of my pocket...the money comes out of the governments pocket.....if i were to go to the garden store...i would have to spend cash....witch i dont have/....:(

I see. Well the good news is, I saw a 2lb bag of guano the other day in my local garden shop for 8 bucks. Apparently guano prices went down.

They look good, keep your temps down and lights close, thats what I do. FUCK MIRACLE GROW, unless you use organics. even with organic nutes its almost impossible to over nute. Use weak nute solutions and you will be just adding water, I mean wtf is hard about mixing in a little power to water, shake and serve. If you are not whiling to provide the plants you are growing with the proper nutrients then Do Not Grow, nor waste the potentially good bud that could be grown, you will be un happy with the results anyways.
