CFL Grow

Hey all, welcome to my friend's CFL grow. He is a hippy and doesn't have a computer, so I am sharing it for him. He uses 3 105W tubes for 22 hours a day with a hydro system. Germinated in rockwool which we placed directly into the hydrosystem. We have 3 air stones in the tank so it is super oxygenated, we think, which is what we attribute the super healthy plants to.

Anyways, we are about 3 weeks into veggy phase. The plants are VERY bushy but only about 8 inches tall. (maybe lack of light? or type of plant?) Not sure yet when he is planning to go into flower phase, maybe around 12 inches. I think he should start flowering now..whatcha all think?

oooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhh those look very good :) :) :) :) :)

maybe a week more then flower, it all depends on how much height you guys have to spare

The max the plants can get to are about 3 feet, but we aint sure how that will work cause we don't have any side lighting...and he doesn't want to spend anymore on lights. If he goes Flower at 10 inches or so, how much taller might it get during the flowering phase?

I will keep updating for him as he sends me photos for those interested in ghetto CFL grows.

well the general rule is that plants double or tripple after flowering. so is three feet the hieght till the lights? or the whole height or what? if you have three more feet to go until you get too close to the lights for comfort, then i would flower at 10 inches.... it will get at most like 30 inches tall, but plus the height of the pot and height from the lights (too close and they burn :))

alright, we just decided on flowering. Just switched two of the bulbs to 105w 30k spirals I think. And left one of the 65k lights as well. I think that should be good for flowering, we hope :) 12/12 from here on out. I guess we need to change nutes now too huh?

I'll let ya'll know if we have girls in 2 weeks :)

you mean you have been "flowering" for 5 days right? assuming your gro space is totally light sealed give it time. i think my plant took a good week or 10 days before showing sex i could see. if you have a strain that takes it's time to mature it will take some time. however if light is leaking in during 12/12 then the plant is going to be all confused.

yes, whoops. I did indeed mean flowering. The room is pretty well sealed. Only the smallest amount of light might be leaking in the bottom of the door. But I don't think it is much if any. My friend is going to give me an update in 3 hours when the lights turn on :)

nope, they are just bag seed. This is our first grow, we are just experimenting to see how the grow area works. I have ideas already for our next grow...but if this ends up working well...why mess with it ya know?

I think we are doing the light correctly. Since switching to flowering, we are now using two "red" lights, and one "blue" from the veggy period. Hopefully that is correct. I'm not worried yet, 5 days would be early for showing sex I think. We just hope we end up with at least 1 girl out of the 3.

I've heard, and it seems to be true in practice, that taking great care of your plants until they show sex will improve the ratio of females to males. Unless something drastically stressful happens to them early on, you can probably count on at least 2 out of 3, and I wouldn't be too surprised to see all 3 be girls you guys took such good care of em.

well 1 thing is that you want to get it to the max hight before flowering because its supose to double or triple in size so if you have 4 feet of grow hight get you plant to 1 foot, top it and bushit it out to as much as you can and take a bunch of clones off of it so that you will have the plant and kick them, I'm aming for a harvest every 2 weeks but I might try for every week then once I can master that its going to be every 1 or 2 days

haha, im starting to think all 3 are either males, or late pistol bloomers....cause I don't see anything yet :(

Hi, i use the same technology, but i use only 4 20w cfl's (2 2700k and 2 6400k) but my babies grow 40cm less than a month. i think it's a great thing. i started to flowering 5days ago. i will send pics. you can see my grow room setup in my gallery......

peace

so here is one photo.....i think this is a male right? Someone tell me I'm wrong.

Well, we pulled it, it was the largest of the 3, looked like a male, and was blocking precious light to the other two that look like ladies.
