hey im using the casing method, rhye and verm as my substrate, perlite on bottom, should i case with wet verm or wet nutrient-less soil. why one is better ova the otha. thanks guys!

You should never put perlite on the bottom it's not going to do anything but increase your likelyhood of contams. If your using rye your best bet is to use miracle grow moisture control or a 50/50 mix of coco coir and verm as a casing layer.

doesnt the perlite help with moisture and humidity??
When used to increase the relative humidity of a fruiting chamber with cakes or small casings placed in it. When placed at the bottom of a casing it will only allow for the potential of contams and bacterial growth. It won't help the casing or substrate in any way.

whats up duders?
when casing should the verm be wet or dry? how do ya know the right amount of water to verm ratio?? and if you used dry would it be alright to finely mist the finished casing so there is moisture, or will that harm the mycelium thanks

perlite fucks up myc, no other way to put it....

You were allready guided adequatly, don;t make it harder than it has to be.
If you are broke, just get the verm, 1cm layer verm, 3 cm layer subtrate, covered by another 1cm verm. All layers even oud as flat as possible.

uh i didnt even mention perilite,im doing the rez effect, im using perilite but its not part of my casing, its my humidifier..... i was asking if it was okay that the verm was dry when mixed with the colonized wbs, i equally mixed equal parts wbs and verm and im incubating and lettin it sit, once i see a few areas of mycelium take ova ill put a small layer of wet verm on top of that and fruit! i was asking if misting the casing would hurt the mycelium, cuz im wondering if the first equal part mixture should have been moist.

Man unless you plan to make a dry absorbent lyer underneath, i don;t think mixing dry verm in is a good idea. It is probably going to be pretty astringent.

Misting the casing is fine, but it is better not to aim directly at it, you don't want standing water on pins.

okay thanks, i hear ya man.. i kinda fucked up this round, hope it doesnt fuck me ova too much, but its mi first time. next time ill do the layers of verm, wbs, verm instead of mixing them..you learn somethin new everyday

at this point im just misting so i can add a little moisture to my casing before i fruit it...

yeah, I like adding my verm dry on top and misting a measured amount of water into it.
You should realy try whole corn next time, ges way faster than wbs, and is alot cheaper too I think.
I like to sandwhich a thin layer of horsepooh between two layers of corn, with only verm on top and below.
You want dishes with a large surface area and then try and get your substrate bit about an inch or thick.

A little tirck for good yields... weigh the shrooms after every harvest and throw that much water back on your caseing....

o wow thanks ANC!!! def will use that tip! is casing all about moisture content??
i just misted what i got so far, which is a equal mixture of verm and colonized wbs, once i see some mycelium growth in a day or two ill put a very thin layer of moist verm on top and begin the fruiting process. the equal wbs verm mixture has been incubating for a little ova a day... do ya think this would work???

remember to wash off lysol afterwards.. it forms a layer that germs love to live in ironicaly.
I agree growing good weed, or weed well, takes more skill......and patience.

Anybody with a $40 presure cooker, some corn, aquarium filter floss, and a few jars and buckets can do it.

Start by googling how to make a diy glovebox.

how much should the casing be overrun by mycelium before i put a thin layer of wet verm on top and initiate fruiting??

I normally case in one go, but after about 3 days for the myc to recover from breaking up after comming out of the jars is, I believe the way its done...

It just seems like overcomplicating things., I like interacting with the tubs as little as possible, so my system is pretty much automated.
