Carve-a-pipe!

Well, had nothing to smoke with, just a plank, a couple of bolts, a coin, handsaw, drill, screwdriver and a file.

I cut two pieces from the plank (1.5" by 11/16"), last cut was at an angle. Made a channel (using the screwdriver as a chisel) and drilled a bowl in one. used the other one to close the channel and make a hole for smoking/attaching a mouthpiece. Put the planks together and drilled 3 holes to bolt them together. Then as a finishing touch i heated a coin red hot (to remove any coating) and after cooling placed it in the bowl (keeps the wood from burning too much). Works nicely, smoke cools down enough in the 11" it has to travel. Durability is no issue, i'd guess it can also double as a 13" baton.

Recommended DIY for anyone, doesn't get much simpler. Just pick the right type of wood, anything untreated (you don't want chemicals) and heavy (dry weight, compared to pine etc. Heavy weight means its hard wood, tastes better when smoking)

Nice. I'm into woodworking in general. Crude or no this implement has allowed the man to take care of head. Kudos, Rep w/e for the ingenuity and willingness to do what you need in order to smoke.

@nl:
Thanks, though i would definitely not class this as needing woodworking badassedness.

@Howzer:
Definitely on the crude side:) The idea was mostly to avoid making a can pipe to sample my crops readiness. Shared the idea for its simplicity, one could probably make something similar using only a knife and some plank, although that would require some extra effort.

Recently, I have found problems with inhaling the glue or the apox being used to bond my homemade pipes. I LOVE making stuff to smoke out of, and like totally live in Home Depot too (saw the ikea logo, funny). But yeah. I have had to rethink some of my pipe building or going to need to change materials. What do you guys use for glue ? PVC pipe glue or the 2 part apoxy stuff.? Has any body tried the "fast steel" stuff. Its like play-dough and works great.

@tommy: better not to use glue at all, make stuff that screws and slides together, use seals rubber when needed (in cases where water is involved). it makes for easier maintenance, glue is messy and cant be taken apart when you need to clean stuff.
