Caregiver Residency Requirement

The Caregiver Application requires one year residency in the state of Maine. I am in NH and own property a Maine town on the NH border. At the MM Conference in Portland this past November, several speakers that I asked suggested that there was, in fact, no enforcement of the 1 year residency requirement. Trying to find an answer before I legally change my residence. I do plan to become a Maine resident, just how soon is the question. Thanks

I don't remember reading a one year residency requirement in the law, or on the application, or in the instructions.

You need to have a Maine state issued photo ID. You send a copy with the caregiver application. That is how they check residency. They don't ask how long you have been a resident.

Where did you see/hear about this requirement?

My understanding is that you can apply to be a caregiver as soon as you have a Maine DL or state issued photo ID.

The 8.5% income tax sucks...but the caregiver status is worth it.
