carbon question

I've started a very small, very stealth grow in my own home. This is a personal use grow, but for many reasons needs to be kept stealth. My room is less than 8 cubic feet, and supports a single plant using bending, topping, and ScRog.

The ventilation question: My room is getting a little smelly. The grow room guys I visit were advising me to buy the smallest fan/carbon filter combo they sell - 190cfm. This would vent my room 20x per minute, and seems like overkill. I'm wondering if I can get away with a smaller blower - 80cfm - which I already have. They say the carbon filter they sell - their smallest one - won't work with only 80 cfm.

Bullcrap? Or, what if I built my own using DIY specs on you-tube? It seems pretty easy - activated charcoal sheets cut to size around a wire mesh - flexible ducting connects it to my blower.

FYI, this will be a scrubbed room so I can increase CO2 -and I'm not worried about temps. So far my max temp is 73.

Thank you for any advice you can give.
