So im getting ready to buy a new 6in carbon filter, the cfm for the filter is up to 850cfm and i got a fan thats 450 cfm is that ok?

I'm pretty sure that your fan has to be rated at the same cfm or more. so no that wont work. Do you have a link to this filter?

depends on how you're using it really or what rating you're referring too, if you 're recirculating you'll run a higher cfm fan, if exhausting a lower cfm fan.

[h=2]850 CFM[/h] The PS850 is designed to filter and area up to 850 CFM ( cubic feet per minute)
that makes no sense to me. doesn't state what cfm fan to use.

Max Recirculating (Scrubbing) CFM: 840 cfm / 1426 m³h
Max Exhaust CFM: 420 cfm / 713 m³h

lol i know i cant find what cfm is optimal for that filter either...im looking on ebay to buy one so whats a good one?

so if that filter is rated at 850 recirculating (which it must be) then if you're exhausting your 450 cfm fan should be fine.

I've only seen one brand of inline thats 6" and pulls around 800 cfm. Its some german company, I have one in my room. I doubt that filter requires that high of a rating. Most 6" fans are 450 i believe.

it at least has more info, like this...
Carbon Layer Thickness1.5 inches
I look at how much carbon the filter contains, like the above info, it's pulling air thru 1.5 inches of carbon.

they come in higher output, the fairly cheap one I bought is 740 cfm I believe.
