Carbon filter/necessity

Hello guys,

I'm planing to start indoor growing and because of the budget o try to get only the necessary. So, does a carbon filter have a direct impact on the -lets say- the yield and the health of the plant or is it used just to get the odor away?
My growing space will be a 30 sq meter basement. Do I need a fan to connect it with outdoors?
Excuse me but I'm a newbie

Carbon filters are for smell only ,yes you need air flow ,starting out its best to keep it simple ,after you get a run under your belt you can tweak things a little ,mind yaw I been at it along time and I keep it real simple ,1/2 lbs per plant is a small number

Thank you. Btw guys how many watts does the light have to be for 4-6 plants? Can anyone suggest me a not-that-expensive (below 100euro/120dolars) lamp that I can get?

4-6 plants could mean anything. From 1lb a plant to half oz a plant, so obviously it depends on how big those plants are.
Best to decide how much space you want to use and work you light from there.

If your on a budget pick up a cheap or second hand HPS. A 600w will cover a 4x4ft space, a 1000w 5x5. Although you can run a 1000w over a 4x4 and have more light per square foot and out yield a 600.

If your just starting I would go with a 600w, been the most popular HID out there they are easily picked up cheap.
If you don't want your house smelling of a grow then your going to want a carbon filter.

Might be best to look for second hand ballast and reflector and pay a bit extra for a new quality bulb. I would also buy a metal halide bulb for vegging with. Makes a big difference to the structure of the plant.

Than you very much. And last question when you harvest do you cut the whole plant and start again from seedlings?

Usually, yes. However you can also revert the plant back to vegetative and use it as a mother (for clones). I'm a newby too, so I can't tell you how to do this.

Carbon is strictly for reducing odors, as for light I can't say what $120 gets you these days. I know I just spent $180 replacing just a 1000 watt hood, no ballast, no bulb. If you are only going to have one area and one light I suggest you always start from seed. Once you are comfortable you will expand to a veg and cloning area :D Good Luck!

30 square meters is a really big area. I'd put a 4x4 or 5x5 tent in the grow area and use a HPS 600w. The tents are reflective so you don't really need to worry about light spread. In a 4x4 or 5x5 grow tent you can easily grow 4 plants to there full potential. Environment is really important. You need to draw fresh air from outside but you can filter the used air into the basement. 4 photoperiod plants strain dependent and a good stable environment can easily get you a pound of medication.

30x2 (assuming your ceilings are about 6 feet)=60 cubic meters, you need to circulate once per minute, so, 60x60=3600 square meter per hour of air is how much you want to circulate if that is the route you want to take.
It might be better to seal it all up and run CO2.

All depends, I like to keep a small part of the plant going in case the high is top notch if it is ill reveg the mother. If im growing an auto the whole plant is harvested and trashed.

If its illegal to grow i would certainly use a filter, also when you grow in your house. Nothing as bad as 24/7 weedodor in your house.
Fresh air is a must, one of the 3 basics the plant needs.
